The Story of Snow: The Science of Winter's Wonder Review: Perfect for 2nd Graders!!! - I just read this to my 2nd grade class and they were completely ENGAGED!! This book takes you through the process of how snowflakes are formed and the difference in formations. I had no idea they grow above clouds and stop forming once they get below clouds! My students were very fascinated with the text boxes with the actual size of the snowflakes, then seeing the magnified picture of them in the pictures. Best part? There is a terrific science experiment at the end of the book that’s ZERO PREP and SOOOO much fun!! All you need is dark colored cardboard (or card stock) and magnify glasses. It happened to be snowing the day we read this. We went outside to catch snowflakes on the card stock and look at them through the magnify glasses! They had the best time doing this!!!! They were able to identify the different types of snowflakes that they had learned about in the book, and count the arms. This is the perfect book for integrating several subjects for 2nd grade! Other related book recommendation: My students were also interested in whether the pictures in the book were real pictures or illustrations…. They’re real. This led to a teachable moment and an introduction into our next book. I teach in Vermont and we’re reading “Snowflake Bentley” next. He’s a famous photographer from Vermont who is known for being the first person to capture snowflakes up close on camera. Review: Great book for K-6th graders - This is an outstanding book!! As a kindergarten teacher in Texas one has to be creative and engaging to teach our littles about snow. We don’t get to see it often! This book does an amazing job explaining how snow begins as a speak and then grows into a crystal. The text is simple enough for kindergarteners to grasp but could also engaging for students through elementary school. The images are wonderful and the simple sketches help tremendously. I can’t wait to share this one with my students when we return from Christmas break! It will make a great addition to our snow/polar animals unit.

Perfect visuals for STEM Storytime
I love to use this book to read about the science of snow. The visuals and the pacing of the book are perfect for teaching one thing at a time. Sometimes, I can point at a picture and let the children guess what they think the book says. It’s not overly wordy but it’s scientific enough and interesting that children really enjoy turning to the next page.

To the point and cleaner layout than most kids books these days.
Teaches how snow forms in a way little ones can understand. I thought the diagrams and limiting what was shown on each page really helped kids focus. I think the overall simplicity feeling when flipping through the book is much better than the jam-packed pop-up text boxes and over color pages of other kid science books.

Julien's Review of the Story of Snow
The Story of Snow is one of Julien's favorite books. Not only does this book contain stunning pictures of dozens of snow crystals, but it also explains the creation of snow in ways that will engage children young and older. The entire life of a snow crystal, from creation to withering, is included in the book with special emphasis placed on the uniqueness of all crystals and the imperfections that we are likely to see. The easy to read text and great imagery make this book special, and the final page about how to catch and observe crystals will allow kids to try out what they have learned on a snowy day. Cute and informative
As an ex-teacher this was exactly what I was looking for. I have a friend who has a 6-year-old that found it fascinating. She will enjoy it more as she gets older.
