Jose Carreras: Christmas Concert [DVD]
P**M
Musically good but lacking atmosphere and short measure
This DVD runs for just over one hour and has no subtitles or information booklet, so it is not great value. This Christmas concert is pretty standard fare with a good orchestra and Jose Carreras in decent voice. There are some strange items on the programme, such as the Arrival of the Queen of Sheba by Handel and two versions of Panis Angelicus, the usual one by Franck but perhaps more interestingly one by J.S. Bach. It is a decent enough concert but whilst the bulk of the items are Christmas pieces there is little or no festive atmosphere. This is a reasonable record of Jose Carreras giving a more serious recital than his more recent popular concerts, but it is not outstanding. The sound is not specified at all, but appears to be good quality digital. The picture quality is good.
