Would this work well to remove the smell of forest fire smoke from synthetic sleeping bags?

Yes. I used it for my coat and sleeping bag after working a backcountry trail crew all summer. Removed the stains and most of the smells. I used a little bit of white vinegar for the rest.

Definitely NOT! There is a potential for problems if you wear clothes impregnated with optical brighteners in natural sunlight. You should definitely avoid UV brighteners.
