Worked for line-in audio.
This is what finally worked to get line- in audio, in the phone, and use it for live streaming.

Mic port does not work
I’m not sure if by chance I received a faulty product and this is a rare occurrence, but my mic does not work with this adapter. I have a 3.5mm mic and it works with other devices such as a soundboard or interface for recording vocals but with this adapter it does not work. I use my mic to record music so and interface I’m currently working with isn’t the best quality so I got this but when I plug my mic in it simply does not register and no audio is being picked up from my mic not even the slightest of sound. I would recommend perhaps checking out another product if you want any use of the microphone port, if you’re using this for the sake of charging and listening to music with plugged in headphones at the same time then by all means buy this. The only problem is the mic port.

Works if you know a little about audio
The media could not be loaded. I needed a device to use my iPhone with my studio mic and other audio sources while monitoring the phone call through headphones. The most important technical aspect you need to understand is that the microphone input is line level. I send the headphone out jack on my audio interface to the slot with the microphone icon on the device. Headphones plug into the slot with the headphone icon. Lightning plug goes to the iPhone. A great feature of the device is that your mic audio is sent to the headphones so you can hear your own voice…it keeps you from yelling. It works perfectly for me!!! I can send my entire audio playbook to the “mic in” along with the feed from my mic. The video is audio from several devices…MIDI keyboard, synth, electronic drum kit via MIDI, Streamdeck, Desktop audio, Shure Super 55 on a tube pre with extensive effects in and out of the box…nothing like a $20 device to open new avenues for audio sprinkles…

Works very well.
Clear sound. Way better sound quality and value than the COVS brand. Hope it will last.

Junk Adapter
Item does not successfully connect a microphone to a lightning connector. I only got white noise after wiggling the adapter. iPhone is new, not years old POS. None of the features work. Charging does not work. The earphone feature does not work, and most importantly, the microphone does not work. How are people creating quality videos with iPhone? Not with this product!

Works with external microphones & comes with Y-cable adapter TRRS to TRS
The media could not be loaded. Tested with iPhone 13 works great. The price - I believe Apple charges a fee for using their technology to connect an external mic because when I bought a 3 pack of lightening to headphone adapters it was like $6 for 3 adapters - BUT - they don't support external mic only headphones.MOVO makes an adapter that is $20 but it does not have a charging port to power the phone and this is important for longer recordings because the iPhone batter drains very quickly when making a video. Finally, I had zero issues with recording and used both Lav (no battery) and shotgun mic that does use a battery and everything worked great.NOTE: With iPhone and the built in camera app you might need to go to system settings under sound and headphones and select use external usb devices or something like that.Third party apps like CinemaP3 and BlackMagic Camera app - you need to go into settings and select external mic because by default they use the internal mics even when and external mic is plugged int. Both of these apps display audio on the screen (must enable in settings) so you know the external mic si working.Lag / Delay: In general, when an external mic is plugged in the phone is ready to record immediately with no delay to "find" the external mic or configure software etc.
