Smart Meter Energy Monitor WiFi Electricity Usage Monitor 80A Compatible with Tuya Smart Life

Works brillaintly and great price for my redundant BP Pulse app. Used to measure my EV usage.

I used this on my hotub to monitor the amount of electricity it was using. As Im already using the smart life app it was extremely easy to set up and get working. Overall the Design and quality is acceptable for the price and the main thing is that it works and has been recording the usage for 4 months now

In the UK if this is installed by me, and there is an electrical fire and my house burns down, I have no insurance! Because it needs a qualified electrician, that’s the rules! This isn’t mentioned, it is claimed it’s easy to install, expecting only to stick the ring around a cable, nope! You have to wire it to your electric box! This is very misleading! Be warned!

I wanted this to monitor accurate historical energy data and actual live data for our new heat pump. The device comes with a CT clamp but no other wiring. So I brought a small in-line fuse carrier and some 1A fuses from Amazon and connected it into a spare way in a connector block on my side of the meter in my meter block (see picture). I’m an electrical engineer, so am comfortable doing this but wouldn’t recommend it’s done by anyone without electrical experience. It should be a very quick job for an electrician though. The CT clamp has a diameter of 10mm so it may not fit some meter tails, but worked fine on the tails going to our heat pump. Set up is super easy on the Tuya Smart app and readout is good. Just be sure to turn off the 5GHz on your router while you pair, or it won’t be found. You can turn it back on straight afterwards. All in all I did everything within half an hour and am very happy with the results

It "Kinda" works. It seems to be pretty good at displaying the wattage being used in real time. Refreshes constantly and responds, to load changes, quickly, but if you want to use it to calculate Kwh units to keep an eye on your bill, then it's not for you. The KWH used figures, that it displays, bear no resemblance to reality. It's a nice, quirky little thing to have connected to your phone, but not really a serious piece of kit. Still, for the price, how could it be ?

Excellent little gadget, easy to install and the Smartlife app gives you all the info. The hourly figures are wrong, which seems to be a common theme with these things. The daily figures and the current figures seem to be fairly accurate. Compared against electric meter over 24 hours and meter was 18.9Kwh and app had 19.2 KWh which was good enough for my purposes.

Installation was pretty simple. You will need a 2 core flex and a plug. Along with precision screwdriver to wire it up. The instructions are quite dire and in Chinglish. But it’s relative straight forward and if you can wore a plug you can wire this. I would recommend putting a piece of insulation tape over the screw holes where the L and N enter just to make it a bit safer although the screws are quite recessed. Once physically installed you will need to download the Tuya app. I already use this for my smart plugs so that wasn’t sure h a big deal. Then you simply press the button on the front and hold for 5 seconds until the blue light is flashing. Then go to discover it via the Tuya app. When it discovers looks like a universal adapter with a Chinese description. So rename it when you can. Then you are pretty much ready to go. I wanted this to monitor power consumption in the house so it’s clamped to the live wire feed into the consumer unit. It seems to measure consumption quite accurately however the app has some serious downfalls hence only 3 stars. You cannot add a unit price to electricity so you can see how much you are spending in real time. This is such a shame. You cannot set alerts for going above a certain kWH usage. This is a shame as I don’t want to be looking at the app all day, just want to be alerted to spikes. There is no granularity of time measurement - eg. By hour or minute. Just by day/week/month. Again this is such a shame. Overall the device works, although setting up is all a bit heat-Robinson but the app really sucks and ruins the whole experience.

Acquistato a fine gennaio 2025 e, fino ad oggi (inizio luglio 2025), ha sempre funzionato e continua a funzionare perfettamente! Devo ammettere che non mi aspettavo un simile risultato da una "cinesata" pagata solo 28 euro: invece funziona davvero bene e rileva i consumi con uno scostamento negativo di appena il 5% rispetto ai dati giornalieri forniti dall’app del mio distributore di energia (e-Distribuzione). Per quanto riguarda la compatibilità con Home Assistant, sapete che online si trovano diversi tutorial che spiegano come renderlo visibile anche su HA tramite alcuni workaround. In allegato trovate uno screenshot dell’app sul cell e la relativa visualizzazione in Home Assistant. Consigliato se non volete spendere di più per una pinza amperometrica wifi di marchi più blasonati.
