Start at the base of the tree, wind wrap around trunk and overlapping, working upward to the top until reaching the branches. 2. Secure wrap by tucking end into the last overlap row or using masking tape or light twine that will decompose naturally. Would this make it harder for raccoons to climb my tree because the sticky stuff and the tangle guard?

I used this mainly for the control of tent caterpillars. I think if you put several wraps to make a wider sticky area it could work. Try a raccoon shield like people use on wood duck houses.

So is this just a tape? Does one have to buy the tub of stickly goo separately?

Yes this is just a paper medium to wrap around a tree. You buy the tacky paste
to spread on the tape. It does work great together!!
