Norelco Philips Multi Groomer - 13 Piece Mens Grooming Kit for Beard, face, Nose, and Ear Hair Trimmer and Hair Clipper - NO Blade Oil Needed, MG3740/40

I had been using Phillips One Blade electric razor for years, however the blades got dull very quickly and replacements are fairly expensive. With a blade that doesn't need to be replaced and for just $20, only a little more than a single One Blade replacement, I had to give this a try - especially because this product was also made by Phillips.Considering the low price point is was a little skeptical about this trimmer being any good; I was ultimately pleasantly surprised!I was very happy with the results and this has since become my default razor to shave with.First I need to mention this isn't really a razor as much as it's a trimmer. This will not leave you with a clean shave. The One Blade also didn't leave you perfectly smooth but it leaves the hair noticably shorter than this product did; for me that really wasn't an issue as I like the look of a little stubble. The result here is extremely short stubble, similar to a five o'clock shadow.Also worth mentioning at least if someone has a physical disability that interferes with shaving: this product needs to be held at a more precise angle than the One Blade (but the same would be true for any razor of this style); the power is turned on by sliding a switch, ideally with your thumb but another finger could be used if necessary. The charger needs the slightest amount of force to go into the razor itself and this may be difficult (but not impossible) if you don't have use of both hands.If you're completely unfamiliar with electric shavers there are basically two types, one that has exposed teeth that move side to side and the other type uses like a grate with a rotating blade behind it. The latter shaved closer but at the same time I find it pulls the hairs, especially when they are longer. The former category, which this shaver belongs to, sheers instead of pulls and is much more comfortable.The battery is sufficient and powerful enough to cut without any issues or slowdown for longe/thicker hair. I've used it three times out of the box without charging it so far and haven't noticed any decrease in cutting strength. It comes with various attachments for leaving hair longer, none of which I have a use for, however it did come with a fabric bag for the razor and charging cable which I found very useful. The razor gets a little bit hot after several minutes of use, but this is literally a non issue that I only mention in an effort to mention everything possible.This is my take away: it's ridiculous that Phillips is able to sell this entire razor, accessories and all for just a tiny bit more than a single replacement one blade. The quality is equal and this doesn't require expensive replaceable blades! It makes me suspect Phillips purposely makes their other product with an incredibly soft metal so that you are constantly buying new blades! While the designs of the two products aren't identical they're similar enough to reach that conclusion.tl;dr I've owned trimmers that are close to five times as expensive as this one, and for me the difference was negligible.A confident 5 star recommendation, especially considering the incredibly low price point!

Good deal for the money, works well after a lot of use. Works smooth, doesn't hurt. Easy to use, all the attachments you need and they fit properly. Charges fast and makes cutting quick.

The price -- gotta mention this value is thru the roof... w/ caveat, detailed later.I do like Philips products -- my Sonicare has been going strong for years now, granted very careful treatment and regular maintenance. Good engineering, and not planned obsolescence behind plausible deniability, will always find my wallet out to reward. Mostly, Philips has delivered for products I've purchased from them -- not always the least expensive... but when has that ever meant the best quality, given the hoards of PRC-made crap that lasts a fortnight at pennies on the dollar? Much rather pay one and done for something I can depend on, vs. several times at cutrate price.Don't get me wrong -- Philips is not a model mfr, far from it. But their personal care stuff usually asks for a bit more cash for a lot more product.So then this came across my gaze -- is that the actual price? Luckily my facial hair has grown to teh point of genuine need for tools... so at that price, just had to see what Philips had to offer.Hands down... this is a great little set of basic clipper tools for your male gob. Nose hair trimmer was a boon -- will defo make use of that, as well as guards for the normal wide clipper + a narrow-gauge one. All I need, really. And there are more well-equipped sets to get should you want more for not much more cash.Only possible gripe out the box, is reversal of orange-means-on, no-orange-means-off on this unit's power switch. Rather if you turn it on (granted the | and O power icons are on the switch) the orange paint disappears. The switch is also a *touch* difficult to slide. I do realise I'm reaching very far into the weeds here -- and tbh, it all took 3s to get used to, and doesn't affect the function of the clippers in use.So sold on this Multi Groomer 3000 13-pc so far -- will update if any quality issues crop up, once daily-using. Five stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️---UPDATE 17 JUL 2025:Have been using this months now on the regular. Still dislike the hi-effort slide switch... but have also come to seriously dislike the fact its charger wall-wart has a green LED on it... which does nothing? Doesn't indicate the charge state of the clipper or status of the charger itself? Basically have to plug it in and wait some arbitrary time to insure it *might* be fully-charged. Has already ambushed me on a short trip abroad; luckily just plugged it in on my travel adapter. But fully-charged, this would've easily not needed it the whole trip. No way to know, however.Would be really handy Philips Norelco, if the clipper or charger had some way to indicate actual charge state. Not as if hundreds nay thousands of personal tech products worldwide don't come standard with such.So for this glaring oversight I would've paid $10 more for the product to have, taking a star. was fine while it lasted but died after 2 years exactly. Bought it October 2nd 2 years ago and its October 10th now. No signs it was going out or anything. Last time I used it, it worked perfectly fine. Now it won't even turn on. Tried charging it for a couple hours, light on on the charger, trimmer still won't turn on. The last trimmer I had lasted almost a decade and only had to move on cause a plastic adapter I needed broke and it was out of production. Enshitification at its finest.
