Great quality of material, good size for the price, I like that it's a bright color so you can tell easier when you need to clean it and it is very easy to clean. All you have to do is cut to fit with a pair of scissors and plug it in

Works AMAZINGLY well serving as a layer (or two) of media in HOB (hang-on back) filters!

I Have all 3 grades in my freshwater sump in series to minimize maintenance and have been very happy. The Blue does a great job of catching large particles (food, leaves, etc) and the shrimp hang out on it feasting and in over 6 months I have not had to clean it. The green filter is next in line and seems to do most of the work when it comes to fish waste, it's the one that needs cleaning most often. I have the black filter in place last, it's fine enough to actually use as a drip tray over bioballs or as a final stage to remove murky or cloudiness from other disturbances well enough I haven't needed filter floss at all. I have just the blue before the biomedia in a canister on another tank and it's doing the job though I think if I had to go with just one in most circumstances I'd use the green now; the black one would need to be cleaned too often on it's own.

I ended up returning this aquarium filter because I realized I didn’t actually need it for my setup. I never used it, so I can’t speak to its performance, but the product looked well made and exactly as described. Shipping was fast and packaging was good. If you’re looking for a filter, this one seems like a solid choice based on the quality and details. Just wanted to clarify my return wasn’t due to any problem with the product itself.

People might not know that there are three sizes in these sponges, Blue: 20 PPI Coarse Green: 30 PPI Medium Black: 40 ppi Fine. I ordered Green, the perfect coarse for my first stage mechanical filteration in my 207 Fluval, the vertical sponges. I believe it's little bit thick, because it's almost 2 inches thick, but great quality. The fluval fiter has more coarse first stage filter sponge than I prefer, therefore I removed Fluval company sponge and inserted this one. Easy to cut with scissor and perfectly textured sponge. Great Buy.

I have a hang-on-back (HOB) filter and LOVE being able to modify it to add more surface area. This sponge is porous, so it doesn't get clogged quickly, but adds a ton of surface area for filtration. Being able to cut this to the size I need is great, because I can shove it in every nook and cranny of the filter! I paired this with Aquaneat's ceramic rings. With a prefilter sponge on the intake, this is keeping my tank water crystal clear. The only thing I would say can be improved is only cosmetic. A black version would be less conspicuous in the filter. Of course, if you have a sump or canister, this is not an issue.

Product arrives shrink-wrapped & compressed to approx. 1/4in thickness. Instructions say to soak in water to allow expansion. It took full 12-rs to fully expand. It's been 48hrs & I'm still having to shake, blot & slap it against cabinet to get it to dry.
