I like the idea of these when you're at a show. I only ice my horse for 20 minutes so I don't need them to stay super cold for any longer than that. I store these in a cooler with ice and water the day that I'm jumping and can grab these and throw them on after I'm done. They're super convenient for that! They're not the best application at home if you don't have an ice maker or refrigerator space at your barn. I don't find that hosing them gets them cold enough - you definitely have to get them fully saturated with cold water and who wants to sit at the hose and waste that much water? You could throw them in an extra bucket of ice water before your ride and they should be cold enough for after your ride.
