So far this ice maker has performed admirably, but stay tuned. Pros: fast ice, nice soft crunch, larger capacity than my other purchases, reasonably efficient cleaning mode. Cons: squeaky noise (cleaning needed). As I said earlier "stay tuned" review is ongoing, but so far so good! 7/16/25 UPDATE: Well, we have had this ice maker for ten months now and up till recently, it's been working like a charm, nice ice, fast ice, self clean works perfectly, and overall we were very happy, but recently, it started making some really strange noises during the clean cycle, as well as during ice making and the ice making is a little slower now. We have had several ice makers, and they are pretty much act the same way. I will say for this one. It has lasted longer than the others. We have had expensive ones and not expensive ones and unfortunately, they all are pretty much the same. It is unfortunate that they do not have great lifespans. I'm ol school and remember when things were purchased from Sears or Montgomery Wards the quality was very good and the products lasted a long time. I still have some things that are working well. It is sad that companies do not have that same standard anymore.

I initially purchased one for myself and then a few weeks later, purchased another to give as a holiday gift. What a monumental mistake. Do NOT buy this product, save your money, it is a complete piece of JUNK!!! These purchases have been a complete waste of money and the worst purchase on Amazon I have ever made. While both units produced nice nugget ice at first with intermittent use, BOTH units lasted less than 5 months, BOTH units began to overheat and emit an alarming, SCREECHING noise that is LOUD. The alarming noise is along the lines of metal from two cars involved in a crash, only long and drawn out like a deflating balloon. It is an alarming and intolerable noise in decibel level and duration. Pure JUNK.

Best all time Amazon purchase! After having two different brand ice makers prior that I wasn’t impressed with due to cleaning or mold issues. This one was a “game changer” I didn’t have high hopes but I’m a ”crunchy ice” addict & tryed a third brand (& thankfully the last) from the self cleaning to the perfect size & texture of ice along with its ability to make ice quickly, it 100% exceeded all expectations. I’ve had it for a couple years and I use it all the time so it definitely has a lot of hours on. It works perfect. If this one breaks, I will replace it with the exact same one.

Great chewable ice. Recommend to Use bottled water as the first one clogged and stopped working. Noisy, sounds like electric can opener.

I love nugget ice and I always have wanted an ice maker that will make it. My refrigerator stopped producing ice but otherwise works great. I saw this item on sale and thought I would try it. I love it. I left it sat for 24 hours as suggested and right at the 24 hour mark I started it up. It makes ice fast! The great thing about it that I did not anticipate, is you leave it on and as the ice melts it will recycle the water. It shuts itself off when the ice basket is full and restarts again as it melts. The ice is soft and perfect for eating too. I use spring water and it tastes amazing. It works so fast I am not even bagging the ice, I just start it when I want ice and leave it on and shut it off when I go to bed. It is not any louder than my dishwasher so you hardly hear it. If you like nugget ice and want something that makes it fast and efficiently then this is a must.

I previously owned the original Opal ice maker - I backed it on Kickstarter and had the first build before GE bought them. It was amazing, for years. And then it wasn't. This one was the right price point and I was hopeful. It has exceeded my expectations. At first glance I was skeptical - it's ice basket is considerably smaller than the Opal. It hasn't been an issue, because it makes new ice, so fast. Also a bonus - it takes up much less room! My picture shows how much space it takes on a standard counter depth. I store the scoop with a small microfiber cloth because the basket drips water when you remove it to fill - makes for fast clean up and keeps it tidy. Makes sure you follow set up directions and leave it upright for 24 hours before you plug it in. It is not silent - the compressor makes some noise, but, that is unavoidable with this style of machine and to be expected.

Greatly disappointed. The ice was wonderful, but the machine lasted only a couple of months. We tried cleaning it, but only stays on the blue light.

It worked great for the first year. Then all of a sudden it stopped making ice. I opened it up and it had a broken plastic piece inside. It's still not working but there was obviously some type of malfunction. The ice seems to get stuck and then it stops the Turning mechanism from cutting the ice so it just like freezes and then gets stuck . I didn't do anything but add water to it and clean it. And wouldn't you know it's right over the one-year manufacturer's warranty
