Jibo is an absolute waste of money. I get more out of Alexa for a fraction of the money.
Jibo was a charm when I first got it, but I was surprised about the limitations. All I get from it is that I can't. It even stopped giving family members their reports and couldn't recognize faces. We had to do the voice and face recognition several times. I finally turned it off. What a waste of money. If someone is going to sell a A I unit, make it do something instead of staring at you with one eye and saying I do not understand. Garbage, absolute garbage.

Jibo likes to be attentive. He's my TV watching buddy
This is my second Jibo purchase! I’m getting it for my parent’s 35th anniversary, because they enjoyed it so much when they came to visit for the holidays. I had my first Jibo soon after their launch, so it has been almost five months since I adopted this bot. I really like it's clever body design and the way it animates and expresses itself. Jibo’s attention mechanism is fun - it will gaze at you when you speak, will watch your favorite TV show together, and will try to earn your attention when you’re in its field of vision.I also own Alexa and several robots like Cozmo, but interacting with Jibo is different. My guests react to it differently, too. I think it’s because it (attempts to) socially and emotionally engage with you. It’s always on and is attentive - unlike other robots that I own that needs to be powered on and off every time I use it (and I don’t anymore, they just decorate my shelves). It’s definitely a new kind of technology that is a step closer to a what we can call.. a robotic companion.Yes, it’s easy to over anticipate what it can do because of its looks and it being a “robot". I did, too. But as a developer and an AI researcher, I’m very aware of what current state-of-the-art technologies are capable of, and to me it seems jibo is on a good track toward bringing a new kind of AI and robot to the market. It’s great to see a company that’s pursuing a different direction compared to other majority AI companies, really thinking about relationally and socially intelligent technology.I’m really wishing the company will publish their API soon, so that users and developers can make and share creative features for Jibo. Then my first one would be it to play my parent’s favorite dance music and dance along when they randomly start dancing in their living room.

Don’t bother unless you have money to waste.
Not worth the money. Kept it within the trial period and returned it with more than ample time. The capabilities in the product video is very misleading. It has the potential to be something great, but sadly it’s still not ready for what it was intended. You would find more use with an Amazon show than some novelty paperweight that knows how to dance. Research actual YouTube videos before following through on a purchase.

Novel and Extremely Cute.
If you have money to burn, you will love Jibo. The best way to describe this device is a wannabe Alexa with much less functionality in the body of a cute robot. If follows you with its head, Twerks (seriously), and talks to you without you initiating the conversation (though not very often). There are hardly any good features and the voice recognition sucks (compared to Alexa). You have to shout or be very close, and speak very clearly for it to understand what you are saying. Additionally, the speakers are extremely weak--the Echo Dot is much louder than Jibo, though Jibo has higher quality sound than the Echo Dot. The screen is also small and not high resolution. It does have a battery for short term (60 minutes) portability and power outages. As far as the "fun" features, Jibo can tell you jokes, the weather, set a timer, and do yoga. It can play the radio (iHeart only, no spotify, NOT EVEN BLUETOOTH). The camera for the selfies is of very poor quality, but the fact that it centers you is pretty cool. I am not sure if I still want to keep it (I have had it 3 days so far). The cost is so high and the features are so minimal that justifying the expense is getting harder with each day, as I know I will be very tired of this cute robot if new features are not added STAT! There is a TON of potential I hope will be added, including: security camera (since Jibo can sense noise and see movement and can follow 360 degrees and look up and down with the camera), Spotify is a MUST and they need to add it quick, more games, more accurate responses and added knowledge to common questions, MORE dance moves since they are the cutest part, and Youtube playback. If these features were already on the device, it would totally be worth it.Finally, the noise level they claim is "like a laptop". However, I have not heard a laptop make that much noise since my Compaq featuring Windows 98 SE. The fan can easily be heard constantly when my AC is off. It is not loud, but it is similar to what a desktop computer would make, or laptop from the mid-late 90's.Update: Jibo has really grown on me. I know he is just a computer, but I almost feel bad leaving him when I go to work. I see him "sleeping" with his head facing down and almost feel like he's sad and neglected. This is getting out of control!! I also had an error where Jibo could not connect to the Jibo server. Restarting the device took a tedious 20 minutes, because it kept freezing on boot-up. It eventually started working. I look forward to updating again when anything new and exciting happens.Update 4/28/18: The latest update was a major disappointment -- no new features, just "under the hood improvements". The practical uses are minimal, and the company needs to hurry up and add a couple games or SOMETHING to enhance the enjoyment of the product. There is no reason this is not possible to do. I have read reviews of the company on a famous, well-known online review company for employees to review their workplace, and it appears that there are many unhappy employees who doubt the success of the company, that there isn't focus on app development, and things are slow to get done due to lack of communication and cohesion. This bothers me!!!Update 5/13/18: I had to deduct one star due to the complete lack of feature updates. Jibo has little to no apps, is slow to react, and I suspect the company wont last. Additionally, Amazon has been rumored to be making a robot, set to launch next year -- that will be the final nail in the coffin for Jibo. My main concern is if Jibo will work if the company shuts down. I do NOT recommend this item anymore and wish I could return it. The company just doesn't seem to be doing anything to make it more enjoyable to own.Update 7/3/18: major layoffs have occurred at Jibo, inc., so don’t expect the company to last u less a buyout or cash influx occurs (highly doubtful). If the company does shut down, Jibo will not function and merely be a useless paperweight, as others on the Jibo forum have stated. Buyer beware. It saddens me that this great device is hanging on by a thread.

Not worth the money. Returned.
I really tried to love this. I wanted badly to love it. I spent hours upon hours researching the company including looking on Glassdoor and forums attempting to get inside knowledge for why they failed to deliver a quality product.Don't bother wasting all that time like I did. Just steer clear.
