Perfect as an introductory read to Ethics
Perfect as an introductory read to Ethics. Not sufficient in its own right to understand all one would need to know for, say, undergrad-level Ethics, but then, no philosophical work is sufficient in its own right like that. Obviously, it is heavily influenced by Driver's own ideas, so probably worth bearing in mind where Driver is coming from to really understand what is being said.

Excellent
This book was very helpful for my studies on various thinkers. It provided a detailed and simple evaluation on many famous theories from popular thinkers such as Kant.

Excellent introduction. Clear and to the point
Excellent introduction. Clear and to the point. Better than the OU A222 on Ethics in spite of being much longer.

Julia Driver's Ethics
This book is a great introduction to ethics. It presents different philosphical approaches and compares and contrasts with the use of examples in the form of 'thought experiments'. It follows a logical progression with each chapter building on the previous one(s). A good starting point and an excellent read.Ethics: The Fundamentals (Fundamentals of Philosophy)

Excellent introduction to ethical theory.
I teach introduction to moral theory regularly. This book is a really good intro text. It's accessible, has a wide coverage of issues, and covers them in a contemporary way.

Very good
Good and very accessible introduction. I particularly appreciated the many examples used to illustrate the moral dilemmata implied by the various approaches.

Interesting introduction to ethics
I was looking for a book that would explain the foundations of ethics, as I wanted to know what ethicists base themselves on when saying that this or that is unethical. I'm always going "says who?". The book at least made it clear to me that there's no such thing as foundations. It's about defining guidelines and then discussing corner-cases where these guidelines lead to counter-intuitive or absurd results. Driver discusses those in detail in an approachable way for someone without any prior philosophy knowledge. The book is too much anglo-centric. Examples discussed, especially those related to political considerations, seem to assume that whatever is considered good by the anglo-american political left (give to Oxfam, volunteer with Greenpeace, etc...) is ethical by definition. I'm glad I have been living in the UK for a while as else I would be very surprised by some of the examples.Driver actually discusses this in the introduction: can ethics be universal, or is it culture-dependent? I am afraid I don't yet have found an answer.

This is an excellent introductory text in ethical theory
This is an excellent introductory text in ethical theory. I use it when teaching undergraduate classes in ethics. Ignore the "1 star" review. That person has no understanding of ethics and the comments are poor.

I personally don't think philosophy can be taught effectively out ...
I personally don't think philosophy can be taught effectively out of a text book, but hey who am I? The book is what it was supposed to be and does the job according to my wife. If it were up to me I'd replace this with a stack of philosophical books that can sit on your bookshelf for a lifetime and make you look impressive at cocktail parties rather than a text book that you'll never open again after that semester...
