The House of Hidden Meanings: A Memoir

Impersonal yet very personal!
I connected with Rupaul synergistically. I felt many of my own private thoughts and feelings about who I am, how I feel about ME perfectly articulated in the way, on paper, that he expressed his experiences. It is reminiscent of Diana Ross's Secrets Of A Sparrow. He told the story well while managing to not be truly revealing.

Fantastic!!!
I received this while I had explosive diarrhea. I didn’t know what to do because I was living in the bathroom so I started reading and couldn’t put it down! As I suffered getting this horrific bowel movement out, I laughed and cried at Mr RuPauls intense revelations about his life. Wonderful toilet reading!!!

Writing Isn’t Even Good Enough To Line a Bird Cage
This book is such a joke. I was looking forward to it so much, but the writing is incredibly self indulgent, juvenile, and poorly conceived. I was going to use pages from the book to line my parrot’s cage, but that would be an insult to my parrot.

Insightful and empowering
This book had me reading from start to finish without stopping!!! So compelling and refreshing to see someone like Ru be so vulnerable and open about his past. I took a lot of great messages from this memoir and i really enjoyed annotating it, I’ve seen other reviews and don’t fully agree but one thing to know is there really isn’t much in the book about drag race, the stories told are pre drag race. I would have bought and enjoyed regardless!
