I find this to be the best quality leads I have purchased and I am including “brand” names such as Pentel and Staedtler. I do not like the leads too hard where they “squeak” nor too soft where they smear and wear too quickly. This are fantastic refills for your 1.3mm mech pencil!

I called and went to Office Depot to buy the lead they suggested (B), bought it gladly. Upon using the lead (2B), I find purchased from Amazon, the lead IS softer and darker; now I can read the notes that I write in my notebook and/or Post-It notes, and telephone directory.
