The mat is soft and sleek. Overall great purchase for the price! If the mat is dirty you can also just place a blanket under the toy part which is really convenient

I use the auto play mode where it plays different songs and the piano keys light up in different patterns. My baby also loves the kick and play mode while laying on back. A lot of high contrast and bright colors too. That's probably why my baby prefers this over a neutral color wood play gym.
