Easy to use and excellent quality
Very well made handy jar for my first Kefir making requirements. The seal works well for smell and the filter is so handy to not take all the grains out of the solution. Really happy as it reduces the messing around.

So happy I bought this!
I absolutely love this! Making milk kefir at home has become part of my daily routine now because it's so easy to use, practical and cleverly designed. It also fits in our fridge when I want to pause for a day or two. I'll be getting a second one for water kefir as well.

A review of mixed feelings
For many months I made my milk kefir in a Mason jar, strained into a wide mouthed jug using a decent sieve and then decanted into a drinking bottle. Sounds involved but it was quick and easy, although did involve a bit of washing up after. I saw the Kefirko fermenter and thought how good it would be to be able to decant straight out of the jar, using the built in strainer but after a few goes, I’m back to my old method. The jar is good quality and it’s nice to have the double lid with adjustable airflow and it all looks nice……but…… the filter doesn’t really work well with milk Kefir, at least not for me. It clogs almost immediately, and takes an age to pour. If you don’t then clean the strainer immediately the kefir dries and hardens and then nothing at all can be poured. It may work better with water Kefir, which I haven’t yet tried. Having said all of this, I’ve just bought the bigger version because they are quality jars, I do like the adjustable air flow and they look good. Time-saving and an all-in-one solution though, not so much….

Excellent quality item, perfect for intended use.

Essentially a very expensive jar
Essentially a very expensive jar. Save your money - just get a cheap jar and a sieve!

A worthy investment
Firstly this product is glass! Which is perfect. It's lightweight but sturdy. This product is super handy for kefir culture growers. It has saved me so much time! The integrated strainer makes collecting the kefir and washing the grains extremely easy. The clear lid allows air in while preventing things getting into the culture. My water kefir grains have more than doubled, they love this product. The little instruction manual and recipe book are great. I had never thought of cooking with kefir. So it's given me lots of ideas. It's not cheap, but it is worth the investment. You get everything you need. No need to buy a strainer to harvest the kefir, or muslin for the top of the jar to keep things out of the culture. The little stick is very useful too. It's a shame it is plastic, glass would have been nicer.

good quality, nice design
Seems well thought out and well put together, got my kefir fermenting in it already and considering some of the other items in the range

DO NOT USE for milk kefir - stick to sieving... and badly designed for milk kefir anyway
The product description implies this product can be used for milk.If you have endless patience and don't mind mess it can.The design is actually very poor - and lazy.My kefir is thick. The sieve lid gums up immediately. I hoped I could partially undo the dust cover thing - but this just gets covered in thick kefir and causes more drips.Taking it out, the hole in the middle starts overflowing if not carefully pouring .Did I mention it was SLOW....So I then put in the scraper lid thing. This is hard to put in - it doesn't quite engage easily so needs the catch pressing in - fiddly with my big fingers. This is supposed to clear the filter lid so it filters better. It doesn't...Even if it did work it would mean swapping the clear dust lid for this scraper every time you pour - not exactly hassle free.A better design would have had the scraper integral to the lid.The whole thing then remains gummed up after pouring - so if this dries out the speed is even SLOWER -- or else you need to wash the filter lid - the very thing this was supposed not to avoid. And by the way - there are no detailed printed instructions provided for any of this... just an image of the scraper thing as a component. So this VERY EXPENSIVE bit of kit was utterly useless.Compare this to me usual method -Gently agitate jar so kefir loosensremove old tea towel square held on to kilner jar with elastic band.Place teatowel square on surface, air side down so inner surface not in contact worktop surface.Pour into large stainless steel sieve - ignore all the nonsense about kefir needing to be free of metal contact - stainless is fine. The large sieve can be gently agitated and kefir goes through into large plastic jug.Kefir grains gently returned to jar.Kefir liquid poured into Contigo Shake & Go (these are great to shake for smooth kefir...)Little bit of Milk used to wash out jug - this poured into Kilner - then kilner topped up.Jug and sieve washed...I can do all this in less than the time to drain out kefir from this useless product... may be ok for water kefir but the whole point of kefir is that it creates sticky biofilms - I can't see how the sieve lid will not need washing...

Finally an easy way to harvest water & coconut kefir!
I was so amazed at how quickly I could harvest water & coconut kefir!

Great
Works great for milk kefir. With the grains I purchased it took a few batches to make great tasting milk kefir. It cleans very well and hasn't stained or been damaged. The lid does close sometimes so I have to make sure it's still open. If I keep it in a place where there is less walking traffic, it always stays open.

Excellent product for kefir
Got this for my niece, I already own 2 of these in different sizes, she loved the ease of use for Kefir and enjoy the different color tops it comes in.
