About 5x3x2 inches. (I just went out and measured.)

Q: Is this appropriate for use with a laptop?

It does not work for a late 2013 13" MacBook Pro. The unit functions normally with the MacBook power supply plugged in. But as soon as you connect the MagSafe connector to your laptop, every 2 seconds it goes into protective mode, cutting the voltage. That has been my experience, YMMV.

Q: Can I use a curling iron or hair straighter with this? I was thinking of buying one of these to bring to Coachella for car camping.

Coolest question EVER!! Sounds like a blast and who else will look that good when camping/sleeping in their cars!?! YOU!! I think a curling iron/straightener would be too many watts (watt usage should be on the grip area/raise printing?)...It can only handle 400 watts with a 800 watt (brief) startup surge (as I understand it....many other experts could tell you better)...but the heating type units (blow dryer, curler, etc) use over that....you could get a more powerful inverter (2000 watt) and hook it up to the battery of the car (alligator type clips, red to red, black to black) and that could do it....again look at the watt usage....oh, and HAVE A BLAST!!
