Can this be used to break off plaster and expose the brick wall behind it?

I did not review this item. I reviewed a claw hammer. However the hammer you are enquiring about would probably do the job. You might be better off with a club hammer, brick bolster chisel and scutch comb chisel depending on the amount of plaster and how thick and hard the base render is.
