It is Friday night, you are craving butter chicken, and the delivery app says fifty minutes. For many people Indian food is the favorite meal of the week, and still it almost always comes in a paper bag. Cooking it at home seems to need a cupboard full of spices you can't find, a grandmother who never measures anything and a free afternoon. In reality, most of the dishes you love come down to onions, tomatoes, ginger, garlic and a handful of everyday spices. Simple Authentic Indian Cuisine brings those dishes to an ordinary stove: the takeaway favorites you already know, the breakfasts and street food you may only have read about, and regional dishes that rarely make it onto a menu. Every recipe fits on one page, with a photo, prep and cooking time, servings and short numbered steps. What you will find inside: The takeaway classics: butter chicken, chicken tikka masala, chicken biryani, palak paneer, chana masala, dal makhani and garlic naan. Breakfast and street food: masala dosa, idli with sambar, aloo paratha, samosas, pakoras, pani puri and vada pav. Plenty of vegetarian dishes: paneer butter masala, aloo gobi, rajma with rice, baingan bharta, bhindi masala and many more. Most recipes in the book are meat-free, so a vegetarian night never means plain rice. Regional specialties you won't find on the usual menu: sarson da saag from Punjab, avial and rasam from the south, Bengali fish curry with mustard, dhokla from Gujarat and dal baati churma from Rajasthan. Sides and sweets: raita, coconut chutney and homemade pickles, then gulab jamun, kheer, jalebi, carrot halwa and rasmalai to finish. No specialty store needed for most of it. A small set of spices does most of the work: chili, turmeric, cumin and ginger turn up again and again, and you will find them in an ordinary supermarket. Start with a dal or a chicken curry this week, add a jar or two as you go, and the dishes that once seemed out of reach become your regular weeknight dinners. For whom: anyone whose favorite food is Indian and who would rather cook it than order it, home cooks who want simple dinners with big flavor, and families who like a few vegetarian nights a week. Giving it as a gift? It suits anyone who always picks the Indian restaurant, whether they cook every day or have never made a curry. Next Friday, the butter chicken comes from your own stove. Mouth watering
The photos in this recipe book are really good, and it makes you want to start cooking straight away. I love the fact that it's not just the staples (butter chicken, tikka masala etc) that are covered, but also desserts and regional Indian specialities. The rexipes are simple to follow and don't require obscure ingredients, so I had nearly all I needed (except rice flour). Thoroughly recommend.

Don't waste your money
Poorly edited and unclear directions. Food lacks proper seasoning. You'd be better off buying dinner out.
