I picked up this food because my cat has CKD and I was hoping to avoid the higher cost of prescription renal diets. Unfortunately, she took a couple of bites from the first can and then refused to eat any more, which was surprising as she's definitely not a picky eater. I tried offering it to my other cats, but none of them were interested either, a single sniff then they walked away. One of the biggest drawbacks is that the product is not returnable, and it only comes in full cases. It really would help if they offered smaller packs or sample sizes, especially for cats with kidney issues who are often picky eaters. Having to buy an entire case just to find out your cat won’t eat it is pretty frustrating. The food itself is noticeably drier than most canned wet foods. In my case, that probably contributed to the refusal. On the upside, unlike a few other reviewers mentioned, all of my cans arrived in good condition with no defects. I didn’t want the whole case to go to waste, so I experimented a bit. Mixing one can with a pouch of Purina Pro Plan Hydra Care made it palatable enough that my CKD cat would eat it. It’s not ideal, but it was the only way to get her to accept it at all. Overall, this might work for some cats, and I'm glad another company is making renal diets, but mine was not a fan, and the lack of smaller trial options makes it a risky purchase.

Our cat loved the food! It was nice to know there was quality food for her without a prescription. If I ever have another cat with kidney issues, I would purchase this food again.

This product has the ingredients necessary to address renal issues but not texture and moisture. It is very flakey and seems dry. My cat has difficulty consuming it so it won't be on the menu in the futre. And, since I am not a cat, I cannot speak for the taste but my cat tried to eat some of it.

Too dry. The label says "Pate in Juice" but there is no juice. It is the consistency of dough and my cats will not touch it. I should have read the other reviews and saved the money.

One of my cats was recently diagnosed with urinary crystals. Since phosphorus is one of the main contributing factors, I did some research and switched them over from Wellness brand wet food to Dave's. I also took them off dry food completely. They didn't love it at first, so I mixed in some Wellness Morsels Healthy indulgence packets (also low in phosphorus) to add some flavor. After a week or two I got my cat checked out by the vet and the crystals were down significantly. I waited another month and got him checked again and his levels were completely normal. This is not a prescription food, but it worked for my cat. It's not cheap, but if it helps I think it's worth it.
