Surprising events, as expected from Buffy & Co.
More Buffy and company adventures. The usual surprising (is that possible? ;-)) turns of events. Magical Buffy in a de-magicked world gives rise to remarkable effects and original adventures. For those who have read and enjoyed the TV series and the previous comics. Actually I think the comics are better; after all one can do more on paper.

But which team...?
The stories running through Dark Horse Comics' Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season 9 issues #16-20 are collected as Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season 9 Volume 4: Welcome to the Team . This continues the `back to the roots' feel of this season's stories, and there are two included in this volume, though the second is really an epilogue to this volume and prologue to the next. The scripting and artwork is excellent, and the characters look like their TV personalities (those that had them), and the dialogue is character-perfect.This story brings a number of threads and themes together from the previous stories in this season, revealing the big cosmic threat, the villains of the piece, and that both `teams' have the same objective/problem, but different and mutually exclusive solutions. Willow, scythe in hand, is back; Illyria is back (or possibly Fred...); Koh the demon and Billy the Vampire Slayer are back; Severin the Siphon is back, but on the other team with Simone; Dawn is in hospital as the magic that made her fades away; and Xander has to chose which side will give him the result he needs. This is an excellent build-up to the finale next issue, as various characters are brought in, the threat is revealed, sides are taken, and black and white slowly become shades of grey. This is the Buffyverse at its best.
