Straight from France Genuinely French, Gourmet Chestnut Spread with Vanilla, Low in Fat and Cholesterol, Great in Pudding and Ice Cream

The can came dented but the product is what I wanted. Despite the dent, it was wrapped in a lot of bubble wrap and honestly it tastes really sweet. Mix it with some yogurt and it’ll rock your world.

Creamy and smooth. Easy to serve and combine with cream or other ingredients. Nice fresh flavor.

Mostly added sugar, I thought chestnuts would have more nutritive value and lacked spices that might have compensated for the lackluster flavor

This is so great for a dessert! It is sweet! Next time I want to make crepes or croissants to have this on!

I enjoyed the Straight From France Chestnut Spread with vanilla. It was on the sweet side so a little goes a long way. But I wish you could purchase in smaller quantity and have it revealed. It was too much to try to get through without the option of a resealing it. Back to the taste. It has a jam like texture. It has hint of chestnut so not overpowering. It tastes good on crepes, pancakes, waffles and oatmeal.

I love trying new things and, given my adoration for all things in the chocolate-nut-spread genre, I opened my 2-pound can ready to gorge myself on a creamy, sweet, and nutty treat. Boy was I disappointed!! :o( I dipped in my spoon and took a taste - nothing. Like, literally, no flavor - just a vaguely gritty brown goo. I know my American palate is not as refined as our European counterparts but I at least expected a pleasant texture and a nutty taste. Noticing there was some liquid on the surface I thought maybe it was just a matter of mixing it all together but no - after much stirring there was no change to the taste or texture. At least I didn’t have to deal with transferring the beastly stuff to a different container; even if I loved the product I was going to remove 1 star for not providing a lid to seal after opening. Hard pass for me - it went straight into the trash and I would give 0 stars if I could. Thank you for reading my review, I hope it was helpful!

It’s was really a treat, kinda nutty with a light vanilla flavor

A product of France this chestnut vanilla spread is a delicious combination of mild sweetened chestnuts and vanilla. It may be used as a simple spread on warm toast, an English muffin or pancakes or as a component in a more complex dish like as a filling for a crepe, thumbprint cookie or baked into puff pastry or small tarts. The ingredients are straightforward--chestnut pulp combined with sugar, water, glucose syrup and real vanilla extract. The paste can be mixed with cream cheese and spread on bagels, or added to whip cream and/or chocolate as a filling for cakes and cupcakes—there are just so many possibilities. The generous 17.6 ounce can has a flip-top lid and to estimate shelf-life at the time of this review in August 2023 the Best By date is 30 months in the future but dates will vary. Excellent.
