A great present for lovers of Indian cinema
This is a typical Dorling Kindersley book - by which I mean it is authoritative, well written and arranged, is abundant with photography and the pages are engagingly laid out. It would make a fantastic present for anyone interested in Indian cinema. The hardback cover is finished in a prismatic vibrantly colourful sheen so it's nice to have it out on display and not tucked away on a bookshelf. Inside are many film stills and postersCharting the history of Indian film the book is ordered in seven chapters, starting in 1913 and taking us all the way to the current day where big budgets and modern values prevail.

Gotta love this book!
Wow! This is a fab-u-lous book! DK do this kind of thing very well. We’ve got lots of DK titles, and all are of excellent quality. This one is no different. The book looks like a labour of love by its editors and designers. It is big, very heavy, colourful, and packed with information. The book is structured chronologically, beginning with 1913, and those early movies and stars, early cinemas, and even some of those brilliantly hand-painted posters. It moves on through the years to the 1930s, to move movies and stars. There is a huge number of pictures, and plenty of informative text. If you know nothing about Bollywood, you’ll learn a lot. There are pages focussing on the greatest Bollywood movies, the stories, the dance numbers, the music, the directors, the studios, the clothes, and more. This is a great fun book. It is loud, packed with facts and figures, and goes a long way to capturing everything that makes these movies fascinating to so many people. I knew exactly nothing about Bollywood, but I had some fun with this book, and I learned plenty. For a Bollywood fan, this would be a tremendous gift.
