Yes, although you might need several coats. For paining furniture I would recommend Frenchic paint though.

Ought i to use this as an undercoat and / or primer when painting with dulux non drip gloss one coat wood / metal paint?

I found this to be an excellent base when preparing wood and a radiator. However, I used it to undercoat a little wooden table and then painted over it with a water based eggshell paint( farrow and ball) . The paint separated and was not a good finish, so had to sand it down to give it a key. That did the trick, but I would have saved time if I had used a water based acrylic primer.
