The Dungeon's Child (The Slime Dungeon Chronicles Book 3)

The slimes are coming!
My only complaint with dungeon core books is that I read them so fast! I can't stop reading one volume, then the second, then the third...now I'm waiting for the fourth with all the impatience of a preschooler opening presents at his birthday party! This series is no exception. The characters are wonderful, the variation between all the slimes is awesome, and the different perspectives of each character is diverse.I'm now conflicted, because part of me wants to be reincarnated as a dragon and wizard, while another part of me wants to come back as a dungeon! I nearly had a nerdgasm in the first book, when the dungeon wanted to eventually have a dragon as his final boss. That would be perfect! Please, release book four tomorrow...or even today if you can. :)(Not joking, by the way!)

uneven writing, shift toward the usual kind of fantasy story...eh.
The first one was kind of cute, but the writing was really rough, and even simply cringe-worthy in spots. Like most authors, there's been some noticeable improvement with more practice writing. In this book, however, the writing is very uneven; there were many parts that were either sloppy or simply badly written (or both), and bits that were really very decently written. It needed much better proofreading and editing (of all sorts; both the tactical sort that catches errors and the more strategic view that says "this bit should end up on the cutting room floor"). And it needed a *lot* more polishing to really shine. The dungeon sections gave the impression the author is simply "done" with writing the actual dungeon POV; what there was of it was sparse, shallow, and mostly used as boring interludes to the human drama. That's sad, as part of what made this series interesting was the quirk of making a story of the other side of the usual ecosystem. What there is of Doc's days isn't very interesting, even to Doc. That's sad, as the series was off to a good start conceptually, and this wastes the work put in to get readers to care about the original characters. It's becoming rather mundane fantasy. This book seems like it was hurried to market, self edited by someone who was overconfident, and is in the process of losing what little made it stand out. Eh. Not exactly terrible, but it really should have been revised a few more times, and had better beta reading and proofing. That said, as I mentioned, I thought there were sections of prose that were quite well done. They were, sadly, heavily outnumbered.

Bigger And Slimier Than Ever.
Doc, The Slime Dungeon, grows as do the intrigues and assaults of The Empire beyond the City State where it grows. As the plots of Gods and Demons play out in the world outside Doc's Dungeon, it is becoming clear that the Dungeon Town, and Doc himself, are becoming major players in the affairs of the world, but to what ends remains unclear. This Series will likely appeal to fans of the Fantasy, Dungeon Core, and LitRPG genres as well as those who enjoy playing RPGs.

This is by far one of the best dungeon books.
This is by far one of the best dungeon books. The dungeon actually "feels" like a dungeon in character and the story revolves around the dungeon's point of view. The characters have actual character and the story has gore with meaning and not just for it's own sake. The book even has some love stories woven in that are good and not a harem or something stupid. The only bad thing I can say is that there are only four so far.....I look forward to number five!

More focus on the dungeon and a larger threat from the big bad world
As the dungeon town recovers from the attack of the Undead Dungeon, Doc and Claire improve the dungeon itself and create new traps and monsters for the adventurers to try and conquer. In the meantime malevolent forces outside the city put their plans into motion. This story was more succinct. It got right to all the parts of the story I love. The dungeon creation, creature evolutions, new traps, and new levels made by Doc.One of the more common criticisms of book 2 was that there was too much time spent in the dungeon town. In book 3 more time spent in the dungeon. I’d say the ration of dungeon to outside world is about 70 - 30. Which I enjoyed.Lots of great action and the author advances the plot of larger world. There’s a new interesting dungeon character, who allows Doc a view of the outside world. It was a great choice by the author since we get commentary from Doc and Claire as this character explores the dungeon town.No huge flaws in the story, solid game mechanics, only continuing commentary that there are a lot of characters to try and remember. But that’s more of a personal preference.Won’t spoil the plot of the story but some of the story threads that have been teased in books 1 and 2 are finally coming together nicely. The story gets a 8 out of 10.

Let down
Really not more to say a disappointing book that seemed rushed and pushed out the door. Ironically the book series that started the trend is now not only being beaten by its competitors but is also being outclassed. The sad fact is the other books have much deeper narrative and world, in fact the more we learn about the royal family and how its supposed to work the more the deep flaws in this series our seen. EDIT after rereading I can see why I gave this a 2 the first third of this book is the issue. After rereading and largely skipping the first third I found the book much more enjoyable.

A Great book and I have a suggestion/Idea
Hey I love the way you right your books and the way you do things so I'm not going to say you need to wright differently but what I wanted to suggest is that you should make a game like the book because there are a few dungeon keeper games but no games with evolution trees. Well I hope that you take my idea at least into consideration because I would by that game in a heartbeat!Your humble fan Jaron.C.Wight

Fun series in the Lit RPG world
I do like this book. The dungeon and its denizens are fun and (largely) sympathetic. The plot doesn't always take the path you imagined but that's half the fun of the read.A series worth reading, though the cover art is a bit of a let-down, but don't hold that against it. I'm holding on for further volumes in the series mostly as I want to see what develops as regards the princess ^_^

3.5 Stars
I like the premis but the execution needs work. The fight scenes were simplistic and too short. The characters felt just a little odd. I know both the dungeon and pixy are young but there is far too much giggling for my tastes. A little can be cute but it's over done. The plot is well paced and interesting enough to keep me reading the series.

Plot & Characters
Much more plot. Many characters develop depth and grow. Worldbuilding expands with Nations, sentinent races and gods.A Well dritten 3rd Part of the series.

Overacheiving
The previous books have been really good, a very new premises and very uniquely written. While this book was still enjoyable, it feels like the author is trying to hard to go in new directions. There are almost too many different narratives and viewpoints and it does get confusing at a couple of points. Not to discourage people from reading it though. If you enjoyed the previous books you will more than likely enjoy this one.I just hope the author streamlines the next.
