Retro 51 Tornado vintage Metalsmith - Roosevelt

A great solid pen, which isn't actually as heavy as it looks (but the weight is perfect in my opinion). The build is superb - no play or wobbles in any of the fittings, just a super smooth twist action which instills confidence. The end of the ink cartridge retracts fully into the barrel so theres no danger of it getting on your clothes/bag when not in use. The finish on the Roosevelt is beautiful to look at and to hold. My only disappointment is with the supplied ink. When it works it lays down a very nice thick line, but its very scratchy and very often struggles to get going. I'll be swapping that out for something else anyway, so not a big issue. All in all, I am very happy with the quality of the pen and can highly recommend it.

A lovely well-balanced pen. I've been using Tornados for over 20 years and they are the only ones my hands, past their best-by date, can use comfortably. I welcome the screw-to-open system, which has never let me down, and the smooth writing - unlike some shop-bought scratchy ballpens. May I compliment the seller on the excellent packing the pen comes in ? It runs no risk of being damaged in thge post. Thank you.

I love the look of this pen!!!! Good weight behind it and pattern and look that definitely stands out :) The ONLY downside that I noticed was the clip. The clip is rather light and mine wasn't bent enough to even touch the body of the pen so it didn't do any good other than look good. I had to bend it just a hair so it not will be a useful clip. Other than that, I love that deployment of the twist, and feel of this pen especially for the price.

Beautiful, heavy, sturdy brass roller pen. Cannot recommend it enough.

Kept hearing about Retro 51 pens on the Pen Addict podcast. I've always had an affinity for different ink pens, but this podcast sort of opened my eyes to the world beyond the local discount or office supply store for pens. Looked up some of the Retro 51 offerings on Amazon and this Tornado model in the Roosevelt finish really caught my eye. Upon receiving the pen, I can totally see what the hype was about. Just the packaging and weight of it immediately tell you it's a quality writing utensil. Comes packaged in a tube that's shrinkwrapped in plastic. Inside you'll find the pen wrapped in protective plastic as well, and stored in foam inside the tube. Not exactly something I'd use for an every day pen case, but it's great for shipping and presentation. The pen itself has an awesome texture to it, both on the barrel and on the twist mechanism at the top. The pen has a nice copper patina to it. I scribbled down some test notes with the pen and found it to be quite literally one of the best rollerballs I've used. Super smooth, effortless writing. Will definitely pick up other designs in the future.
