Fascinating desk decoration. A modern version of a lava lamp, but interactive. I love them!
I bought one of each of the wood colored and the gray colored Ferrofluid Music Mate. There is a lot to love about these little magic dancing boxes. Both of them look great and the overall workmanship is really good. I bought them as gifts for my two teenage boys, and they both really loved them. For those looking to buy one, I will outline the things that I really enjoyed about it, and some minor things to be aware of.I really liked that it is not a speaker. (I have plenty of those) It has a very sensitive microphone that controls the action of the ferrofluid. Even talking in the same room will create motion in the fluid. The louder and more consistent sound will keep it in the center. When it is quiet, the ferro fluid often drops out of the center. This is fine and adds to the motion. The back of the round glass is white and lights up when the unit is on. It is reasonably bright and really accents the ferrofluid. I thought the jewel in the corner would light up, but it does not. There is a really bright blue led on the back to indicate power, but it can be covered if needed. As a bonus, it comes with a really strong small magnet attached to a holder that looks like a chess pawn. It is really fun to move the fluid around and interact with it. One unit's magnet was actually two smaller magnets and could be split apart. This might not be great for little kids, but I don't have that worry. I don't remember if this was common to both units. The magnets work regardless if the unit is powered on not. When you get it, it is normal to have some extra non-ferrofluid oil in the unit (looks like a floating light brown bubble). Both mine had this. If you set the unit on it's side the oil will be prominently displayed at the top edge of the glass, which doesn't look great. If you place the unit vertically as shown in the pictures here, there is a small indent behind the edge of the wood that traps and hides that oil. My older son had wanted it to sit under the monitor, but it really needs to be in the normal vertical orientation to look right. My kids leave them plugged in, but they do have a battery so they will run on their own. I have not tested this much, but they ran for at least a few hours on Christmas before we plugged them in.If you are looking for an awesome desk gadget, a replacement for your lava lamp that is long gone, or a really neat toy that is brimming with science, this is a perfect gift for you.

Very Nice but Pretty Pricey
They delivered exactly what they promised. It was in perfect condition when I received it. I do think it was a bit over priced but I wanted to give it as a gift. So, I got it.

Great present
I bought this for my husband (who loves Venom from Spider-Man comics). It is without a doubt the best present I’ve ever gotten him. He loves it. It is really cool to see it react to your voice and music, like an interactive lava lamp.

Designed to look like a speaker and advertises speaker
I haven't tried the product but I bought it as a gift thinking it was a speaker since its designed to look like one according to the picture and is advertised as a "speaker". I figured for the price it would contain something that produces sound. It looks like an old fashioned radio which suggested that it played music. It has no such speaker. I told the person I was giving it to that it was a cool sound device that dances. When opening the package, because we don't open gifts here before giving them, I discovered there was no speaker function and looked like an idiot. I had to read the instructions, which should be available online, because thats the only place it says "DOES NOT ACTUALLY HAVE SPEAKERS.". This frustrated me and sort of ruined the gift giving because this person didn't get gifts for their birthday. Now, why would you put speaker and ferrofluid speaker in the title and then put THERE IS NO SPEAKER in the instructions? Now, this might be a design flaw because I know the guy who writes documents and the guy engineering it probably don't talk -- but to Americans this appears to be dishonest. FERROFLUID SPEAKER MEANS IT SHOULD PRODUCE SOUND. FERROFLUID. SPEAKER. FERROFLUID SPEAKER. "Music mate" isn't a thing other than suggesting its "together with music". "Mate" doesn't suggest it loves music and therefore dance together. Ferrofluid Speaker Music Mate suggests its a speaker with or made of ferrofluid that is apart of music. Anyways just thought I'd help with the language barrier.Anyways, I'm sure its a 4/5 but this seriously messed up an already bad day. It haven't had more than 2-4 hours of sleep for about 11 months now and thats just 1 of 100 problems I have.
