Best running shoes ever!
I have wide, low-arched feet and have struggled over the years to find a shoe that would be kind to my feet. I really LOVE the Vibrams brand, and when Vibrams collaborated with New Balance, it was a shoe marriage made in heaven. I seriously love these shoes. They are so incredibly comfortable. I don't suffer arch pain or foot fatigue in these. In fact, they've become my everyday shoes. I definitely will buy another pair.Just a little background: I'm very active. Run just about everyday, workout 5 days a week. Shoes have held up. Easy clean, easy dry, easy maintenance shoe. I've run with them in the rain. It's been a few months now and the shoes are still great. I've washed them twice already and they dry quickly just by allowing them to sit on the porch.Love these shoes!

The ultimate shoe
I am not a runner anymore. I was told I can't be. I have a geriatric body with naughty vertebrae and joint issues that prevent me from indulging in the sport, yet I'm only in my early 30's. Suck. Thus, my review is solely as one who wears these as a casual walker/traveler/hiker.Here's how my story begins. I wanted new, cool, lightweight sneakers to take with me on the German GAPP exchange I lead this past summer. My rational: If I was being forced to chaperone 10 teenagers abroad all alone, I could justify new kicks yet again (I go through this same shoe-buying process every time I'm about to go on this exchange....so every other year!). When I first investigated my shoe options and discovered these online, I was wary. The price was high, and I'd never tried on a minimalist shoe before. Also, I have a terrible back. As the "randomly-goes-out-on-me-whenever-it feels-like-it-and-I-can't-walk-anymore" kind of back (3 bad lower lumbar disks - 1 has oozed out and sits right on a nerve = bane of my existence). Given these factors and the amount of walking we do abroad (TONS), I didn't want to (and couldn't afford to) invest, yet again, in another pair of shoes that'd end up being mere luggage decor.Long story short, I did A LOT of research regarding this shoe compared to others, and in the end, I kept coming back to the Minimus silver/purple runners, because they are so pretty (yes, aesthetics in a shoe counts for me), and they continuously get fab reviews. Thus, after hemming and hawing for about a week, I up and ordered them, hoping for the best.Low and behold - I was not disappointed - not disappointed in the least!! I wore these suckers with gusto abroad, and I've been blazing trails with them in the good ol' Midwest ever since. And oddly enough, they enable me to walk all day with zero pain - zero! When you live with back pain (and accompanying leg/foot/pelvis pain/numbness), you get used to feeling some sort of nasty ache, twang, numbness, or bolt of lightning daily, but these shoes are like the miracle of Christmas! I would never have guessed they could help - I assumed I might ache worse because they're minimalist critters. Was I wrong - and thankfully so! They're super lightweight, pliable, totally cool looking....I'd hazard to deem them extremely comfortable eye-candy for the foot. For these wonderful beauties, I would rid my closet of all other running shoes I have, but I'm a bit of a shoe hoarder, so that might take some time...Anyway, I'm so sold on these shoes that if and when the time comes to retire them, guess what I'll be purchasing again - and this time with no hesitation! I love, love, love, love these shoes!! Best purchase in years!

Excellent lightweight, minimal running shoes - good trail hikers too.
My daughter wears these for running on the school Cross Country team and loves them. They are low, lightweight and allow her to feel the ground as she runs. They are almost barefoot shoes, only a 4mm drop with very thin sole. They move with you, and feel more like a sole attached to your foot rather than your foot in a shoe (If you're a barefoot shoe type of person, you'll understand what that means). They do not offer much padding, but you really don't need much depending on how you run. They do however protect your foot from sharp stones, glass and other things that could hurt you.In addition to using them for Cross Country, she also hikes in them. Many people think they need a heavy boot for hiking and backpacking, but I've found i generally feel better after backpacking with a heavy pack to NOT wear boots. My daughter has hiking boots, but prefers to backpack in these. If they get wet, they drain in seconds, dry fast and remain comfortable wet or dry. They offer excellent traction and sure footing, which is important when carrying a pack and scrambling over all sorts of terrain. She enjoys our hikes more actually, and doesn't complain about sore feet. No blisters, no sore feet.Excellent featherweight running shoes with fantastic ground feel. Good trail hikers with durable uppers and water management. Well made and durable - she runs at least 2 miles daily in them through all sorts of weather. Getting the right size is important, but once you do they are amazingly nice shoes.

My wife loves these shoes!
Although we went with the blue version (not the orange and purple version), the shoes are the same and they fit her feet well. She immediately felt good in them when she first tried them on. She also felt good (no food fatigue) after her first outing in them (which was a full13 hour day walking around Disneyland). These minimalist shoes are ideal for walking/running. They fit her arches well and they provide excellent support. Not only that but the sole provides a healthy level of protection from the ground. Some minimalist shoes have very thin soles and you can feel everything on the ground, especially rocks and gravel (ouch!). These shoes provide a nice level of freedom for your feet and are highly breathable, they are also incredibly light. All in all this is a great pair of minimalist shoes in terms of support, protection and freedom to walk "barefoot". On top of that, they look cool. Now, the strap in the middle can stand out in some versions but if you get the blue verison it blends in well. We recommend this shoe to any runner or walker who wants to try minimalist/barefoot running or walking.

Great shoe and good price
Bought these as a trail partner to my Vivobarefoot's and ordered the 5.5 UK. These were a 38 when they arrived (which is a 5) but the fit was fine and I can wear a sock with them if I want to because they're slightly bigger than my Vivo's but the NB's are still light and flexible.I agree with earlier reviewer that you need to break these shoes in slowly if you've not worn minimalist shoes before. I'm a recent convert to running and probably haven't had to worry as much about changing my running style to suit them as I've not spent years running in cushioned shoes - I also tend not to wear anything on my feet unless I need to, so my feet don't object too much to the midsole strike etc.The shoes are well made and the mesh good and breathable. and although the sole doesn't look as sturdy as some of the barefoot trail shoes I've seen (including the Vivobarefoot Breatho) it's fine for turf, sandy conditions or light trails. I think if I wanted something a bit more durable I'd have to look at some other shoes but these are comfortable and fit well and at this price I'm tempted to buy another pair so I've got them in reserve. Looking forward to some days out!!

Very light
Very happy about how light they are and yet still great bounce on trail. One thing, they are what they say they are ie trail running shoes; unlike other running shoes you can't get away with using them in other contexts such as treadmill running, in-door exercise they really do not suit that purpose. They size just right so do allow for thicker socks or swelling feet.

Fantastic shoes
Absolutely love these trainers, true bare feet running and very comfortable. Very bright in colour and true to the picture, fantastic for running or with shorts in the summer.

NEW BALANCE
Very soft, but not as soft as Merrell's. I would describe them as a little more compact. Great for running in hot summer on any terrain surfaces, they are "good looking" too ! You don't need socks to put on.

otherwise a fantastic semi bare foot shoe
I normally wear a size 5 (38) but needed a 5.5, otherwise a fantastic semi bare foot shoe.

Scarpe trail running New balance Minimus

great for summer and soft trails
I was a little worried when these arrived with a label warning that use of these very flat shoes by someone unused to them could lead to calf and achilles injuries, and one should take care to get used to them very gradually. So , although impatient to take them on a long run, I did as instructed, and have worked up to longer runs over several weeks. I adore them; even on the shorter runs, I always get a PB when wearing them ( although this can't continue for ever, obviously), and they have always been comfortable. I run on varying terrains, and these are perfect for the sand and soft woodland tracks I find on the North Downs, but the sole is really too thin for wearing on very flinty ground that I sometimes encounter, and I've bruised the balls of my feet quite badly. I have wondered about putting half an insole in, just to protect my soles a little. I don't think the grip will be good enough for slippery mud, these are definitely summer shoes. Problem is, they have ruined all my other shoes for me - when I need to go back to wet /muddy shoes they feel very heavy and cumbersome. I got these at a great price from Amazon, and I don't know how long they will last - they are much less robust than my other running shoes, so I feel I should get some more pairs of these before the price increases again, and keep them as spares.
