howdy pardner!!
Its a rainy Sunday afternoon, there's the usual drivel on the box and your football team got beat yesterday. Need a bit of cheering up then!! Put this 'best of' compilation on, sit back and enjoy the film/tv themes of those great westerns from yesteryear. Here we have the City of Prague Orchestra reproducing the music from some of the best westerns to have hit the screen. They do it to their usual, very high standard (as was with the 'war film themes' double CD).Bernstein and Morricone are well represented throughout the 40 tracks (each CD has 20 tracks) and their anthems are instantly recognisible. Yes, that smile is coming back to your face, as CD1 kicks off with 'The Big Country' and 'The Magnificent Seven'. Two classic film scores that are recognised world over.CD2 opens with 'The High Chaparral' and 'Bonanza', great tv themes from the golden age. The thing that stands out for me is how upbeat most of these tracks are and that makes the music so much more easier to enjoy. Even the more serious pieces, such as, 'Dances With Wolves' build up nicely and draw you in.Go on and relive your youth, camp out in the back garden, huddle close to the camp fire and listen to this wonderful collection of tunes as you knock back your coffee, stirring memories from back then. Either that, or wait for your football team to get beat again!!Again, this is a great present for Father's day, birthday or Christmas. Be warned though, buy yourself a copy, cos when you get home from listening to your father's, you're going to want to play it over and over. Hell, it may not matter the next time your team loses if you have this!!!!

High Quality TV/Movie Theme Compliation
A generally excellent compilation. All tracks except the first are played by The City Of Praque Philharmonic Orchestra (TCOPPO, the first is played by the Philharmonia Orchestra, London), and this is what I look for on such a CD.Movie productions in particular can have large budgets with good quality music arrangements, performances and recordings. TCOPPO produce an excellent sound and make very good recordings that match or exceed the originals. Many western classical tracks are also good accompaniment for sailing videos with yachts of all sizes. The cover image is a notion of "How The West Never Was", like most of the movies, however this is one CD not to judge by it's cover.

Yee haar !!
I love this collection of Western film themes - 2 CDs of classics from The Magnificent Seven to The High Chaparral, She Wore A Yellow Ribbon to The Big Country, Once Upon A Time In The West to The Outlaw Josey Wales and all stops in between !I think for the price it's a pretty good deal and although they may not be the originals, they are pretty faithful reproductions.I find listening to this on my MP3 player on long train journeys, brightens up my day no end, so I really can't complain.Listening to The Magnificent Seven on the train to anywhere (but particularly Carlisle) is just briliant. Can't recommend it enough.

Come and get it ...
A thoroughly enjoyable collection of Western Themes from film and television, mostly played by the City of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra. The more well known pieces sound like pretty faithful reproductions of the original scores to me. And the lesser known themes are no less capable of painting those vast western panoramas in vivid colours. Good sound. And wagon trains a-plenty. No Shane - so 4 points.

Bought for my dad
I bought this CD for my dad's birthday last year and he really loves it, he plays it in the car and has his favourite's which he plays louder! There are a few tunes he dislikes, but that is no reflection on the CD, just his personal preferences.I'd recommend this CD for anyone who loves the Western Themes, there is something for everyone on the disks (even I secretly like a few of them!!)

great stuff
Bought this for my husband as he is a western fan ( big classical music fan too )& it is a favorite of ours now. Most of the tracks are 'biggies' & the sound is generally very good - even for my 'pickie' partner , perhaps I should say 'pardner' - sorry. Good for travelling in the car we find.
