How is Apivar 2.0 different from the original Apivar?

Apivar 2.0 is Véto-pharma's newer formulation, built to produce a mite drop within the first three weeks of treatment and to hang in the hive without needing toothpicks.

How many Apivar 2.0 strips do I need per hive?

Use one strip per five frames of bees in each brood chamber. This ratio is based on colony size, not hive count, so a stronger colony needs more strips than a smaller one.

How long do I leave Apivar 2.0 strips in the hive?

Leave strips in place for 6 to 10 weeks. For best contact with mites, scrape off wax and propolis and reposition the strips in the brood area at the midpoint of treatment.

Can I use Apivar 2.0 with honey supers on the hive?

Supers should be off during active treatment. Apivar 2.0 has no required withholding period afterward, so supers can go back on right after you remove the strips.

When is the best time to treat with Apivar 2.0?

Spring and fall, during periods of active bee activity, are ideal windows. Apivar 2.0 has no temperature restriction, so outdoor temps aren't a factor in timing your treatment.
