Excellent Rod
Hands down the 8 ft Med Action Outta Sight model is the best saltwater rod for speckled sea trout and redfish. The length gives you distance on your casts and the blank has just the right amount of action from tip all the way down the backbone of the rod. Its not too stiff and not too noodle like. You can work top waters or soft plastics or live bait equally well with it. I can't believe this rod can be had for under $100. Couple it with a 2500 series spining reel and 10 lb braid along with a 15 lb maxima ultra green leader and you can land 30 lb reds if played right and the average fish (4-8 lbs) feel great on this rod. In my experience guys use way too heavy gear. I like to rig for the most likely fish I will catch, not the most unlikely. What that means is if the largest thing you can hook is a 30 lb red while fishing you probably shouldn't rig up for it because you are going to hook that fish 1 percent of the time. Rig for what you are actually likely to catch 15 to 20 inch trout and 18 to 30 inch reds. You'll get more bites using the lighter line and have more fun catching the fish than if you fish with a stiff medium heavy rod with 30 lb leaders and 20 lb braid.

Our Favorite Fishing Rod!!!
We love these Falcon Coastal XG spinning rods!!! Been using these for years. Have 7 of them (4 @ 8ft, 2 @ 7.6ft, & one 7ft). We do a lot of inshore bay fishing in Texas. These are perfect for pulling in Trout, Reds, Flounder, Drum.... you name it! My son is eleven yrs old and limited out on Reds (26", 28" & 31") also caught a 36" black drum on his 7'6" Falcon XG.Falcon Coastal XG SS-8M, SS-76M, SS-7M are Medium Fast Action rods that can handle anything in the bay. They're light weight and Great quality! They also have a hook holder, which is a must have for me. I highly recommend this rod.

Great Rod,,,, Poor Amazon Packaging
I've owned several of these Falcon Coastal series rods. All have performed beautifully so I was excited to see that they were available on Amazon with Prime shipping no less. I received my first rod packaged in a flimsy rectangular cardboard box with some loose brown packaging paper wadded up and stuffed in the box. The box was in two pieces, taped together, to make it long enough to accommodate the 7 foot rod. The end of the box was crushed and the rod tip inside was broken. I know that the tubular cardboard containers are more expensive but they are sturdy and I've never received a damaged fishing rod shipped in one of them. Amazon should consider upgrading their packaging on something as crush-sensitive as a graphite fishing rod. So, the poor review is slanted towards Amazon's method of packaging this rod, not the rod individually. Rod should be shipped in a sturdy cardboard tube with bubble wrap surrounding the rod.

the perfect inshore rod at a bargain price
Falcon rods offer tremendous value. You will not find a rod as good as this for only $90. I’ve used their bass rods with great success and ten years ago when I moved to the gulf coast of Florida I started using their Coastal Spinning rods. Since then I’ve caught copious amounts of all the popular inshore saltwater fish on this rod: redfish, snook, tarpon, and trout. The durability of this rod is amazing. I have about six Coastal Spinners and some are over ten years old and have been used many hundreds of times and they are all holding up great. But not only are these rods incredibly durable but they also offer fantastic sensitivity. You can really feel your bait especially when paired with Fireline. The 7’6” length is perfect for long casts and horsing big fish out of the mangroves. I wouldn’t use anything else.

they are eight feet in length perfect for my type of fishing (spotted sea trout more ...
I have three of these rods. They are not for everyone meaning they are very flexible...they are eight feet in length perfect for my type of fishing (spotted sea trout more commonly known as specks). Some fishermen like a more stiff rod but for me during the winter months here in south Mississippi when the big specks are in the coastal flats or waiting to ambush smaller fish near drop offs I prefer the Falcon especially when using twitch baits. You can feel the movement of the baits, can see the end of the rod moving as the bait moves and when a fish strikes, well, look it's just a pleasure to fish with it. The rod is limber enough to keep pressure on the fish without tearing the hooks loose from the tender mouth of a speckled trout. They are not for everyone but perfect for me. I have caught specks, reds, black drum, even Jack Crevelle using my falcon rods. I have one that is six years old and it's as good today as when I bought it just not as pretty.

Not made in USA
Solid Rod, other than not being made in USA I have no problems.

I should have read the poor reviews - rod tip snapped
I used the rod for the first time 60 days from purchase. The rod tip snapped on an undersized trout, as has happened to many other reviewers. Since it was more than 30 days from purchase, I had to pay $10 to ship the rod to Falcon and include a check for $20 to ship the new rod back to me. The inexpense rod has now become expensive and I have no faith in the quality of this Falcon rod. I'll look elsewhere for my next rod.
