Very quiet, but no pull cord as standard
Fitted as a replacement, this is very quiet compared with the old fan. It will be interesting to see if it stays so as the inevitable dust sticks to damp blades over time (it's in a bathroom!).The 'B' in the model code, VSF100B, stands for 'basic' (the VASF100T has a build in timer), but be aware that the VSF100B does not include an on/off pull cord - it is intended to come on when supplied with power. The back plate moulding is able to accommodate a pull cord (internally) without the need for modification. You can do this by taking the motor wire which is connected to the 'speed' terminal and connecting it to a switch and then take a second length of wire and connect to the speed terminal. I used a switch with a 'side' pull and attached to the back plate with a double sided sticky pad adjacent to where the motor wires enter the case. There is slot for the pull cord to exit below this - clearly this was the intention when the case was designed. I purchased the switch from Amazon - search for "4.152 Pull switch 2 amp with pull cord" (photo attached).Installation is straight forward. The front cover is released by a single screw. Once the ducting pipe (not supplied) has been attached to the exit of the back plate (100mm diameter) and the power cable fed through the power entry hole, the back plate (160mmx160mm) is secured to the wall with a screw at each corner. The fan speed is set by connecting one of the motor wires to either 'terminal 1' (low) or 'terminal 2' (high). The second motor wire is connected to 'terminal 3' at all times. If you wish to change the speed at a later date, it is simply a matter or removing the front cover and moving the wire between terminals 1 and 2.High speed makes considerably more noise than low. Other reviews have commented that low is so quiet that they wonder if the fan is still effective. The technical data on the Vent-Axia web site states that high speed runs at 6.8 Watts power, creates noise of 26dB and moves 21 Litres/second. Low speed is 4.3W, only 16dB but still moves 15 Ltr/sec.This review was written immediately after installation, so without the benefit of 'in use' experience. First impressions are vey favourable if you want a very quiet (it is not silent!), easy to install fan - and with a little extra effort you can add a pull string on/off switch without modification to the case!

Perfect- Slow speed almost silent! faster speed minimal noise.
Bought to replace an old noisy fan. Incredibly easy to install. On the slower speed the fan is almost silent and even on the fast speed which i chose while installing, the noise is minimal far quieter than any other bathroom fan i have in other bathrooms in my guest house. I will replace all the fans in other bathrooms because I like this fan so much. Lovely clean, minimal design which looks great in a modern bathroom.

Words of advice to buyers.
Bought this to replace a noisy fan in bathroom adjacent to childrens bedroom. It is certainly quiet, even when set to the higher of the two speeds available. It was easy to fit, as a replacement.Just a couple of issues to the non experienced fan installer: First, the fan doesnt have a timer on it ( it isnt advertised as such, I know, so my naive error ) so it isnt adjustable, it is just on or off, when switched. Secondly, you have to be careful when attaching this to ducting to allow the backdraft flaps freedom to open at will. I discovered that this wasnt happening with mine, so thought thefan wasnt working. I have since removed them as the previous fan didnt have such a feature. In summary, a great, quiet fan, just be careful if you want it to remain on for a defined period after use, get the 100T

As Described.
This fan is very much " as advertised". It arrives set to the lowest speed at which it is very quiet and almost silent but the performance still matches the min' building reg requirements. At the higher speed, it is still much quieter than the cheaper opposition. The quality is not impressive i.e. it is pretty flimsy but adequate and the exterior design is elegant. The quality of the build is only just adequate and the worst component is the back draught shutter spring which is a simply piece of clear plastic loosely pressed over two studs on the back of one of the shutters. I have back draught shutters on the exterior vent itself so I simply removed the shutters on the fan altogether. On the matter of motor/impeller effectiveness and radiated noise, both of these aspects of performance will be very much affected by the type and form of exhaust ducting e.g. a straight exhaust through a cavity wall will be much more efficient than an angled exhaust vent as in ceiling mounted configurations. Also, on the subject of clearing steam from bathrooms, this is more a matter of the ambient temperature of the bathroom rather than the efficiency of the fan. So, if you don't pre-heat your bathroom effectively, the steam will rapidly form and condense and there's not a vent fan on the market that will compensate for this. I bought several of these to replace Manrose fans a couple of years old and which, in a word, are simply rubbish.

As quiet as you want it to be?
It’s very quiet but only on the low speed setting. This is where the low decibel figures apply. If you want to stop the bathroom steaming up you will need it on the fast setting and the noise doubles then. It is still pretty quiet even then . A good product overall.

Vibration from the motor can be noisy
We put these into a flat to help manage moisture and mould. Even on the quietest setting, there was still a very audible hum. After a lot of experimenting (we've even added potentiometers to the circuits), we found that the motor vibration was being transmitted to the ceiling (they're mounted in corners, close to joists). The only way to reduce the noise was to loosen the screws so that the mounting is hanging rather than tidily attached.I've asked Vent-Axia whether they offer rubber mounts (we have them on Papst fans used in another application) but that isn't an available option.

Very quiet indeed. Minor issue when attaching it to plasterboard walls or ceilings as the sound and vibrations are amplified by the hollow space behind. Hardly the fan's fault as it's one of the quietest on the market but it's just something too keep in mind (maybe use some dampening material behind it)Would definitely recommend
