Witty, full of delicious 'hate' humour and A real love/hate rollercoaster to boot this is an exceptional read and one I cant recommend enough. Laugh out loud and frustrating as hell this is pure entertainment. So go on - have a read and enjoy - I did! 💥💗😍 tiktok was right!!!!

Once I started reading I couldn't keep the book down. Loved the banter between Romeo and Dallas. It had a good storyline kept you engaged till the end.

Romeo, the brooding billionaire heir with commitment issues, and Dallas, the fiery heiress with a sharp tongue, are thrown together in a high-stakes relationship filled with banter, steamy encounters, and plenty of drama. While the premise is intriguing, the execution falls flat in several areas, landing this at a solid three-star read.What Worked:The slow-burn tension between Romeo and Dallas is the book’s biggest strength. Their enemies-to-lovers dynamic has the right amount of spark, with witty banter and undeniable chemistry. The push-and-pull of their relationship creates moments of genuine intrigue, and Shen and Huntington’s writing style is as sharp and engaging as ever. The emotional growth Romeo undergoes—albeit uneven—adds some depth to his character, and the darker themes woven into the story are handled with their signature flair.Why 3 Stars:It Was Just Too Long: The book felt unnecessarily drawn out. While slow-burn romances thrive on tension-building, the story could’ve easily been 100 pages shorter without losing its impact. There were stretches where the pacing lagged, and entire subplots felt like filler rather than adding to the emotional core of the story.Unnecessary Side Characters: Morgan (Romeo’s ex) and Maddison (Dallas’ ex-fiancé) felt like afterthoughts, included solely to create drama that didn’t add any real tension. Morgan’s influence on Romeo’s character arc felt forced and unnecessary, while Maddison’s role was so insignificant that removing him wouldn’t have affected the plot at all.Romeo’s Family Dynamics: Romeo’s family, especially Romeo Costa Sr., were caricatures of toxic parents with zero nuance. His parents felt like recycled versions of characters from Shen’s other books, specifically the Fitzpatricks, making them predictable and lacking originality. Their presence didn’t add anything new or compelling to Romeo’s internal struggles.Cringe-Worthy Moments: There’s no easy way to say this—the Oreo cream scene was… baffling. It completely derailed the mood, leaving me more uncomfortable than anything else. It felt unnecessary, out of place, and just plain weird.Romeo’s Character Felt Recycled: Romeo’s personality seemed like a blend of Shen’s past characters, particularly Killian and Wolfe. His “dark, tortured billionaire” vibe felt overdone, and while there were glimpses of emotional depth, he never fully stepped out of that cliché mold to feel like a fresh, unique character.Dallas Lacked Depth: Dallas, unfortunately, didn’t have much personality beyond her obsession with having children and spending money. It felt like such a waste of potential—there was an opportunity to give her more purpose, perhaps through meaningful work or deeper personal growth. Instead, her character arc revolved around lavish shopping sprees and surface-level desires, which made it hard to connect with her. The conversations between her and Romeo were minimal, and even their banter, while entertaining, didn’t reveal much about their emotional connection beyond the fact that they enjoyed arguing and having hot sex. It left their relationship feeling hollow, with little substance beyond physical attraction.Final Thoughts:My Dark Romeo is entertaining in the way many dark romances are—steamy, angsty, and dramatic—but it lacks the character depth and emotional resonance needed to truly stand out. The chemistry is there, but the emotional connection feels shallow, and the story drags in places where it could’ve been tighter and more impactful. Fans of Shen and Huntington’s work might still enjoy the familiar tropes and tension, but it doesn’t quite reach the level of their stronger novels.

I always enjoy a retelling of Beauty and the Beast, and this modern adaptation did not disappoint. Portraying cold-hearted beasts is a delicate topic and both these writers nailed it, Romeo Costa fits the bill perfectly, with his abrasive personality, quirky habits, and aversion to noise. In contrast, Dallas Townsend, his polar opposite, is a loud, privileged virgin who enjoys indulging in food, books, and unexpected encounters with her new arrogant and grumpy spouse. The dynamics between them promise an intriguing journey ahead.The sentiment that one should never change oneself to fit another's expectations resonated with me deeply. Dallas, a Southern heiress with a taste for the finer things in life, refuses to conform to Romeo's desires, especially his reluctance to start a family. Her determination to be a wife and mother on her terms, even if it means spending his money in rebellion, showcases her strength and resolve. Despite entering the story with preconceived notions of male manipulation, Dallas emerges as the one who holds control in their relationship, consistently surprising Romeo and challenging his attempts to dominate her, much to the readers' amusement.Romeo's domineering and callous demeanour contrasts starkly with Dallas's spirited and independent nature, creating an intense and captivating dynamic between them. As their story unfolds, Romeo's struggles with his emotions and past trauma, coupled with Dallas's relentless spirit, lead to profound transformations for both characters. Witnessing Romeo grapple with his growing affection for Dallas, and her unwavering support in helping him heal, adds depth and complexity to their evolving relationship.Despite the comedic elements woven throughout the narrative, the story delves into deeper themes of resilience, self-discovery, and overcoming personal hardships. The protagonists, shaped by their tumultuous pasts, demonstrate immense growth and vulnerability, ultimately forging a formidable and loving partnership.Huntington and Shen have crafted a compelling tale that enthralls with its hate-to-love elements, intricate character development, humorous interludes, and riveting family drama. This book was so much fun to read! The sarcasm/deadpan humour from both the MMC and the FMC was insanely good! I laughed from the beginning to the end of the book. 😂😂😂The narrators were amazing as always.
