Varathane 211724H Premium Wood Stain, Quart, Red Mahogany

My vintage walnut veneer stereo speakers hadn't been oil treated in a while and were dry. Frankly the wood finished in my house is Cherry slightly redder than Walnut which I prefer anyway so I got this stain to both treat and modify the original color of these 50-year-old speakers and it worked like a dream!! I put two very heavy coats on them approximately a year apart from each other, wiping off the excess after it was allowed to soak in and after 2 months this was the result!! Beautiful. Classy, not cheap and cheesy like some.

First time using any stain, I'm refinishing a hundred year old mirror and wanted to restore it to the deep mahogany i found under layers of green paint! This is so easy to use, the color is rich, the wood took the color with no problems. The foto is the first pass with the stain. I plan to do 4 coats, this is only the first coat. The directions are simple, let dry 2hrs between coats, wipe or brush on. I recommend using a microfiber rag for best results. Really couldn't be happier with the way the product went on and the color achieved.

Trying to find red mahogany, but this is just brown. Do not see any kind of reddish color!! Mixed it up good and it is just light brown-waste of money!! Will save it for something light brown-

The product coverage is great and I prefer this over Gel stain. No streaks if using a quality brush, thin coats and a bit sanding and you are on your way hassle free. It is a little sticky if you go too thick but that is easily fixed with a medium setting on a hair dryer if it is humid etc. So thinner and more coats is the better option. Good stuff!!

This is the best stain I have ever used! Color is incredible and it is easy to apply. After it dries a few minutes, just wipe it down and it’s beautiful!

A great product, as I've found all Varathane products to be. Easy to use, lasts almost forever, and so reasonable in cost.

I bought this oil based stain to match the red mahogany that was on a dresser I'm restoring. I used a wood conditioner prior to staining the top part of the dresser. I think it turned out great! My 45 year old dresser looks new again!
