Mattel Jurassic World Strike Attack Dinosaur Toy, Prestosuchus Action Figure with Movable Joints & Single-Strike Motion

I love this dino toy, it comes with good details on the figures. Mattel product never disappoint me. The paint job on this one is better than the previous versions.

Although it looks a bit similar to both, Prestosuchus is not a dinosaur, and it’s not a crocodilian. But, it is related to both. Prestosuchus was a pseudosuchian archosaur from the Middle Triassic of South America. I’ll just get this out of the way first and foremost: this figure bears only a passing resemblance to an actual Prestosuchus. With that said, this is a charming, and beautifully sculpted little figure with a ton of personality! The lower jaw is covered in flat scales of varying sizes and shapes. The scalation on the face consists mostly of small, flat scales. However, there are large, osteoderm-like bumps towards the rear of the head around the cheek area. A row of spikes runs along the snout, and more spikes adorn the ridges above the eyes. The teeth are gnarled, and remind me a bit of the Indominus rex teeth. The inside of the mouth has some great detailing too, especially the texture on the tongue. Moving past the head, the neck, body, and tail all feature rather large, pebbly scales. There is some nice wrinkling on the neck, and at the tail base. A few osteoderms are scattered about the body and tail as well. The underside features rectangular scales, much like the belly scales of a crocodilian. The legs feature a bumpy and square scales. They, too, look very crocodilian in their design. The most interesting feature, and the one that makes it the most inaccurate, is the fin like structure that Mattel has added to the animal. Starting at the base of the neck, a short, sail-like structure follows the spine all the way to the tip of the tail. Not only that, but an identical structure runs along the underside of the tail too. It’s a really bizarre design choice, but it somehow works on this Prestosuchus. This figure harkens back to some of the wild designs of the old Kenner figures, and I love it for that very reason! Articulations are the standard for the “Strike Attack” range. The legs can all move forward and back. The front legs can swing out wide, and the rear legs can pivot outward slightly. The tail can rotate for some reason. (I will never stop harping on the pointless tail articulation. Give us some useful movement here, Mattel!) The action feature is super simplistic, but simplicity is all a figure like this needs. Pressing a button on the back of the Prestosuchus causes the jaws to open wide. The action is smooth, and easy to activate. (There’s also a satisfying snap when the jaws close!) The coloration is also pretty simplistic, but looks great on the figure. I particularly love the striping along the back. My only issues are the lack of paint on the belly, and the fact that the stripes stop before the tail. The inside of the mouth has great color, and the teeth are painted well. The eyes are perfectly applied on my particular figure. I also appreciate that the pupils are rounded. It’s a small detail, but one that adds to the unique personality of the figure. This is an awesome little toy! What it lacks in accuracy, it makes up for with a retro look, quirky personality, and a fun action feature. This Prestosuchus also helps highlight another Triassic species, and I’m all for more Triassic and Permian representation by toy makers!

I love this figure! The sculpt and paint are beautiful and the action is silky smooth. The figure is surprisingly sturdy for it's size (but I noticed that all the Jurassic World line's quadrupedal figures are hardier than the bipedal) and it has an excellent price. Overall, a great figure for a budget gift or for a collection display alike.

Smaller size, nice colors, mouth, arms and legs move. Good quality, fun to play with.
