Perfect!
Works great! Super easy to use! Was able to easily prove that the earring leverbacks I received were plated instead of genuine sterling and got a refund from an Etsy seller that said they didn’t do refunds. Great quality. Just know the acid does have a shelf life, no way I’ll be able to use all of it before it expires/stops working but it’s good for now :) very accurate! Can easily see the red indicating it’s legit silver for my control known sterling earwire (top line). If you have any doubts about if your seeing red or not, just wipe the acid clean with a cotton ball and look for a red mark or residue on the cotton ball- makes it way easier to see that way. Saved me $85 so I’d say it’s a very good value.

Great for distinguishing real silver from other metals and from silver plated items.
It works great. You just need to practice and figure it out. You need to have something that is silver and something that is plated or another metal so you can see the results. After that you will have no problem identifying real silver! I love being able to test all my findings since I am a jewelry maker and I buy huge lots of jewelry making supplies from people who are retiring. *** Silver Plated items do not test as real as some reviewers have mistakenly reported. ***Also, my first bottle was working perfectly fine down to the last drop 1.5 years after I purchased it. It does not go bad super fast. You should use a flashlight and magnifier to see if there is red after letting the drop of liquid sit for 30 seconds or so. You can see in my photos a real silver ear wire and a plated one. The plated one does not test as silver. There is simply not enough silver on plated things, since it is a tiny tiny tiny layer of silver. You are looking for a red color inside the dot of liquid. Non- silver streaks will be eaten away by the acid, but real silver streaks will have a reaction and turn red. Summary: Works great. Easy to use once you learn how to use it. Plated silver does not show up as real, but as fake. **Note: I don't try to distinguish between the types of silver (fine silver, 925, etc) I just want to know if it is real silver or not.

Good product.
Great investment. Just know you have to use all of the solution in one bottle after opening in six months.

great quality
This silver jewelry test kit has been just what I needed to check whether pieces are real or plated. The kit feels well put together and the components don’t feel cheap — the stones and metal samples are clear and easy to use, and the instructions make the whole process straightforward even if you haven’t tested jewelry before. Using the scratch stone and reference pieces makes it simple to compare items and see how they react, and I was able to tell the difference between a few pieces I wasn’t sure about. It gives a good sense of whether something is genuine sterling silver or just plated, which is exactly what I was after. For the price, this kit offers very good value. You’re getting a complete set that does the job without costing a fortune, and it’s easy to keep on hand for testing rings, necklaces, coins, and other small metal items. Overall, I’m pleased with the quality and how easy it is to use — it does exactly what it’s supposed to do.

Didn’t work for me
I don’t know if I got bad solution or what, but nothing happened on fake silver or real silver. No change of color. So I would recommend.

Works, but one bottle was leaky
You get two bottles here. One was only half full and wet. The bottle leaked. With that said, the acid works. It is easy to see on the included black scratch pad when silver tests positive. I assume that the leaky bottle is a one off, but it is still part of my experience.

It Works
The product worked for me. I recently started buying a bit of sterling silver for investment (well below spot). I found that one piece I bought that was marked 925 was not actually silver. Everything else was silver. The scratch plate doesn't really harm whatever you are testing. The colors are somewhat hard to see, but when you get a fake piece and see there is no color at all - just black - then it becomes really easy. As long as there is red, then your silver is real. Though the red from 999 to 925 was a little hard for me to make out the difference. Though I am guessing that will get easier with experience. This is a great way to reassure yourself. Because that fake piece I had passed both the magnet test and the bleach tarnish test. I had also filed into it a little and saw no difference in metal color. So this acid test was the only thing that queued me in that it was fake.
