will this work to cover a small chip in my body paint that exposed bare metal? Prevent rust from forming on it?

Yes. I got mine exactly to cover a chip on my bicycle. It’s working right now.

Can anyone tell me if this is easy to remove?

I didn't have an issue. I did use a hair dryer to warm it up though; I'm not sure if that helped but I assumed it would make it easier. I'm sure if you don't have access to a heat gun or hair dryer you wouldn't have a problem removing.

can this be used on door panels?

This film could be used on any glossy painted surface. It could not be used on cladding or anything with a matt finish.
