I’ve tried a few of these CarPlay/Android Auto boxes over time, and most of them end up being disappointing once you get past the initial novelty. This one is different, and in my opinion it’s worth paying extra for a properly specced unit like this. The version with 8GB RAM and 128GB storage makes a noticeable difference. It feels responsive, apps load quickly, and there’s none of the lag or stuttering that you tend to get with cheaper boxes. That alone already puts it ahead of most alternatives I’ve used. A big advantage is that it runs a proper Android environment rather than relying on the usual “mirror” approach. Many cheaper devices depend on MirrorLink-style solutions, which often fall apart due to DRM restrictions, especially when trying to use apps like Netflix or Prime Video. With this unit, that simply isn’t an issue because you are running the apps directly on the device. I’ve tested both Netflix and Amazon Prime Video while the car was stationary during a hand car wash, and playback was smooth and stable. No crashes, no strange limitations, and no quality issues. It actually feels like using a small, dedicated Android media box rather than a workaround. Another strong point is flexibility. You can use it as a standalone device thanks to the built-in eSIM support. I’m currently using the one-month cloud SIM trial that comes bundled, and it works well for streaming and general connectivity without needing to tether to a phone. Alternatively, it also works reliably as a wired-to-wireless Android Auto bridge, which is how I use it day to day. The built-in GPS is also surprisingly good. In practice, it’s as accurate as my phone, which means navigation apps behave exactly as you would expect without needing to rely on the handset. Overall, this is one of the few devices in this category that actually delivers on its promise. It’s not just a workaround for CarPlay, it’s effectively a small Android system integrated into your car. If you are considering one of these boxes, I would strongly recommend spending a bit more and getting a higher-spec model like this rather than going for a cheaper option that ends up being frustrating to use.

Used with a Honda and sprinter van only one complaint....the video is not smooth....when the screen panes left to right very jittery....other than that a good bit of kit

Hey there! I wanted to give you an update before I return the product. The CarlinKit Android 13 CarPlay AI BOX, with 8GB+128GB and Snapdragon QCM 6125, is currently installed in my car. Unfortunately, it freezes quite often, even though I haven't installed anything on it yet and it's up to date with the latest updates. I'm using it in my Porsche with a 2017 touch screen model. I'm really looking forward to a prompt response because I'm not happy with this expensive purchase.

After trying several devices from carlinkit it self this is the only one which arrived in a good condition and is actually fast enough for me to keep, easy switch between car play and android auto I just wish it could detect wifi from the bluetooth rather than having to open hotspot. Reboots fast when car is switched on and the quality of the videos is very high! Overall its good enough, hope it lasts.

CarlinKit ist absolut genial. Ich nutze beim MB GLE funktioniert ohne Probleme. Es ist zwar Umstellung für den Nutzer am Anfang, da man hier 2 parallele/ getrennte Menüs zur Auswahl hat. Original vom Mercedes und/oder CARPlay. Trotz dem laufenden Film oder Nutzung von Youtube funktioniert auch Navi (als Sprache, im HeadUp oder im Tachodisplay). Es ermöglicht beim Fahren entweder über WLAN vom eigenen Handy oder über SIM Kartenslot im Gerät mit einer SIM Karte sämtliche Funktionen zu nutzen. TIKTOK, Youtube, Netflix funktionieren ohne Verzögerung (wenn Handy Empfang gut ist). Die Auflösung wie auf den Bildern, fast über den ganzen rechten Monitor. Ich finde in Ordnung Beim Auswahl der Sprache sollte man Wunschsprache auswählen und nach ganz nach oben schieben (1) ! Hatte am Anfang auch Schwierigkeit es hinzubekommen. Allerdings diese Funktionen können während der Fahrt ablenken! Für andere Mitfahrer während der Fahrt ist echt genial. Der Presi ist nicht billig, aber ich habe es nicht bereut. Funktionen, wie man sich wünscht, um während der Fahrt nutzen zu können.
