TCG: Tinkaton ex Battle Deck (Ready-to-Play 60-Card Deck)

This is a good ready-to-play Pokémon TCG deck for anyone who wants to start playing without building a deck from scratch. The complete 60-card deck is straightforward to learn with, and the included rules, playmat, damage counters and other accessories provide everything needed to get started. Tinkaton ex is also a fun Pokémon to build the deck around and gives it more personality than a completely generic starter set. It is designed primarily for learning and casual play rather than serious competition, but it does its intended job very well. A convenient and enjoyable beginner deck that can be played immediately after opening.

Bought as a present for the Pokémon fan - they loved it and regularly play it as their battle deck.

I bought this as a gift on short notice so I needed it to come on time and it turned up a few hours early which was great. Delivery wise, perfect. Product wise, I have to admit that I was quite disappointed. The extra items such as the coin and tokens were as expected which was good. As for the cards... Maybe around 10 cards were actually different Pokemon... The rest of the cards were duplicates, trainer cards and a bunch of energy cards. I understand that it is a ready-to-play battle deck so you need the trainer/energy cards for the battling but I was really hoping for more variety when it came to the actual Pokemon. As a pure battle deck it does the job. As part of a battling/collecting deck, you'll get a few cards to add to the collection with the rest going into a mess around and battle pile. As a collecting deck, it is a no-go. As such, for me this product was a one-off buy so that the person I bought it for would get to have the experience of using a battle deck but now that that box has been ticked off the checklist, I probably won't be buying anymore battle decks.

Pokémon make a number of products aimed at learning how to play Pokémon the Card Game ( also referred to as simply TCG). This is a ‘1 Pokéball’ pack ( as seen by the single Pokémon ball on the front bottom left of the pack), meaning it’s designed for someone just learning how to play the game, as opposed to a serious player, or someone just collecting the cards. In TCG there are 2 players, each having a full deck of 60 cards. This box contains one full deck of 60, so for one player. It consists firstly of one key character card , like Lucario Ex, MewTwo Ex, Chien Pao Ex or Amphoros Ex in this case, depending on the deck pack bought. (These single cards are special promo cards, highly collectible, and collectors do buy these packs, remove that single card, and sell the rest of the pack on, so do take care of that featured card). Then there are a mix of other character cards, plus some energy cards (you can’t make any moves without energy) and some supporter cards, that get you out of a jam or speed things up. There will be several of some cards, as you start play with only 7 cards at first, the rest being in the deck etc. For this reason someone just collecting the cards will find duplicates. It’s also not ideal for someone playing competitively as the cards inside don’t have enough of the more recent, or high level cards (they would be better off with a Battle League pack, which is a 3 Pokéball pack so for more advanced players - and of course is more expensive ). However for most fairly new players this is a great starting point. There is a good range of cards in each pack, you can play straight away (assuming you have an opponent also with a full deck!) they are great value compared to single card packs, and you can use them as a basis to learn how to customise your own deck as you go along. I’ve bought 6 now (three for me!) and have found them all excellent value. PS If never played TCG before then I’d recommend the Pokémon Academy - also on Amazon - that talks you through the game, step by step, and includes a playing board and three starter decks.

Very disappointed with these cards, just a pack full of duplicates including 18 of the same card, my son is really disappointed!!!

What you get is your complete 60 card deck, a sheet of punch-out damage markers, a brief guide explaining how to play, and a playmate, a coin, and that's about it. If you want the poison and burn markers, you need to buy either an ETB (Elite Trainer Box) or other sets that include them. That said, as long as your opponent isn't using moves that poison or burn, you should be just fine without them. If looking for card sleeves, they should be at least 2.5 in x 3.5 in, but otherwise this set is wonderful for both collectors and those looking to start playing alike.

Sent in an envelope instead of a box, the packaging was definitely lacking in keeping the product protected. It's disappointingly beaten up, especially when it's intended for a gift.
