Product Description Romantic comedy starring Sandra Bullock as Margaret Tate, a tyrannical business executive on the brink of deportation from the United States back to her homeland of Canada. Margaret coerces her young assistant Andrew (Ryan Reynolds) into marrying her so that she can stay in the country and he can stay in his job. In order to keep up the facade, Margaret must now endure a trip to Alaska to meet her future in-laws (Mary Steenburgen and Craig T. Nelson). desertcart.co.uk Review Rom-com favourite Sandra Bullock and the affably charming Ryan Reynolds’s superb chemistry turn The Proposal from otherwise standard romantic-comedy fare to one that is entertaining and sure to garner laughs. Margaret (Sandra Bullock) is a workaholic, tyrannical book editor (reminiscent of The Devil Wears Prada) who suddenly finds her career in jeopardy as she faces deportation back to Canada. Her solution is to simply fake an engagement to her unsuspecting assistant Andrew (Ryan Reynolds), who in turn blackmails her for a promotion. However, when Margaret is forced to head to Alaska with Andrew to visit his family in an effort to make their story believable to the deportation officers, they soon realise that their plan may not be so simple after all. The supporting cast of Dad (Craig T. Nelson), Mum (Mary Steenburgen), and kooky Grandma (Betty White, still a scene-stealer at 87) is great casting that makes for many amusing scenes. Bottom line: witty Reynolds and Bullock are perfect sparring partners for each other and not half bad to look at either. --Lisanne Chastain Review: May contain spoilers!!!! - I thought this was a great, entertaining film! Throughout the movie, the witty banter between Margaret Tate, played by Sandra Bullock, and Andrew Paxton, played by Ryan Reynolds, allows for viewers to find humor in a somewhat realistic setting of an executive and her assistant entering into a relationship. The movie begins as Margaret Tate, the executive editor-in-chief of a book publishing company, finds herself in a bind because her visa was denied. Margaret, a native Canadian, will lose her job if she does not marry her executive assistant, Andrew. For Andrew to accept her proposal, she must succumb to his every whim. This includes a trip to Andrew's family home, in Sitka, Alaska, for his grandmother's birthday. This trip includes Margaret meeting Andrew's extremely outgoing grandmother, his parents, and ex-girlfriend which leads to an awkward engagement party and wild strip show adding to the movie's humor. While on the trip, Margaret and Andrew must put up a pretense that they are madly in love with each other to protect themselves from the Immigration Department who has threatened to send Andrew to jail and deport Margaret if they are fibbing about their marriage. A more sensitive side of Margaret is seen when Andrew's mother and grandmother take Margaret to try on her wedding dress. The dress which is a gift from Andrew's grandmother puts Margaret in tears because she finally cares about Andrew and wishes that she had the family relationship he has. Margaret and Andrew take on one final challenge with the immigration office before their marriage when Andrew's father tries to coerce them into admitting the marriage is a charade. Both deny the allegations but when the wedding day finally comes around, Margaret announces that the marriage was a fake in front of everyone because she does not want to ruin Andrew's future. In a clichéd but sweet moment, Andrew runs after Margaret, who has 24 hours to leave the US for Canada, but is unable to stop her plane. In a desperate last attempt, the movie ends with Andrew flying back to New York to get the woman he loves by proposing to her. The movie is described as one that will amuse audiences of every age and become a movie must-have for future generations! Review: The proposal - Must see film never tire of watching it so I bought it 😄

Funny film, with one very annoying scene that breaks it
If you like the premise, you'll probably find most of the film funny and touching. Typical romantic comedy, it has its cheesy bits, but not as cheesy as most. Genius of Sandra Bullock, Betty White and Anne Fletcher. If you're old enough to remember when they were big stars, you'll love this film. Spoiler warning: My problem is this male stripper scene in the kind of hen party. It's just out of character. Then, the unfunny male stripper is a running joke. He needs to be dropped. Some kind of weird Cuban in Alaska, the gag doesn't work and takes away from the flow of the story. He's also confused with a character earlier in the film (by non-Americans especially). Maybe that's intentional, but it really just pulls you out of the movie and say "was that the same guy?" It really wrecks what might have otherwise been an excellent movie. Other than that, this is funny (at times it may be inappropriate for children, especially teenagers who are likely to repeat some of the more "inappropriate" jokes.) Betty White was in top form, although she was a bit lewder than she was in the Golden Girls (especially concerning the male stripper), and Sandra Bullock is great as a soon-to-be-deported Canadian. Okay, some Canadians I know hate this film, but in general, it is very true to the trailer (which can still be seen online.)

Fluffy Romcom with Screwball Elements
It's not Sandra Bullock's best film (not Ryan Reynold's either for that matter), but it's good fun all the same. This romcom cum screwball comedy makes for the kind of light hearted entertainment that's perfect to help you wind down after a long day at the office. It's hilarious to see American Bullock as Margaret, the ruthless powerwoman (but unfortunately a Canadian one) and Canadian Reynolds as Andrew, her poor abused PA (fortunately an American one), whom she forces to marry her in order to avoid deportation. Yeah, you get it: a lot of situation comedy here. The weekend spent with Andrew's family in Alaska (pretty scenery, but patently not Alakan - New England or Canada?) where the bickering couple have to keep up the charade makes for many a genuine laugh. Betty White in the role of Andrew's grandmother is pure comedic gold. She's by far the most enjoyable character in this. Bullock and Reynolds look great, and they do an excellent job at portraying the couple's strained relationship. But with both their questionable ethics (to put it mildly) it does take a while to really warm to either of their characters. I also really like Mary Steenburgen in this. She is just so endearingly nicey-nice as Andrew's mother and Margaret's prospective mother in law. Don't expect more than a lot of good natured fun and a goodly dose of kookyness, settle down in front of the telly with a tipple of your choice and enjoy. The DVD has English subtitles for those who need them. Also included are the following extra features: - Alternative ending - Audio Commentary wtih director Anne Fletcher and writer Peter Chiarelli - Deleted Scenes - Outtakes & other absurdities
