Hiden-History of NCIS, World War II
From the very first page, I was drawn into the captivating narrative and rich character development. The author's writing style is both engaging and accessible, making it easy to lose track of time while diving into the story. The narrative is set against the backdrop of World War II, focusing on the challenges faced by the ONI and the importance of counterintelligence in the face of Japanese espionage. The themes explored in the book are thought-provoking and resonate on multiple levels, prompting me to reflect on my own experiences and perspectives. The pacing of the story is just right; it kept me hooked without feeling rushed or dragging on. The dialogue felt authentic and relatable, making the characters feel like real people rather than just fictional creations.

Well Documented, with appropriate deference to Japanese Americans and Japanese Citizens
When this book came out, I was intrigued by the title and by the subject matter. I was skeptical, hesitant to order it because it is co-authored by an actor. But, I couldn't resist. I have no regret now that I have just finished reading it. The substantive content is well-documented with authorities in footnotes, but not in an overbearding manner. Also, the authors indicate (in footnotes) the places in which the "the dialogue is dramatized," a nice touch. An important aspect of this book is that it is deferentially written in regard to the interest of Japanese Americans including "Nisei" and "Issei," as well as to Japanese Citizens. Insight is provided in regard to the opposition to Japanese internment of American Citizens, as provided by those who were best able to express knowledgeable opinions. Another important aspect of the book is the historical and respectful discussions presented as to Japanese culture and religion. Proper balance is, of course, maintained in regard to the militaristic issues and those intent on war-based expansion. I am very glad that I bought this book. I learned much. (On the negative side, I would have appreciated larger font, especially for the footnotes - for which I used a magnifier. My vision has deteriorated in my senior years.)

World War II history
It was very difficult to follow. Referred to Japan throughout the entire book and hard to remember all the terms etc. Was history and so I did finish reading!!

Outstanding addition to our American story.
Excellent addition to the historical record and provides needed humanizing and faces to the shameful issue of Japanese-American internment during WW2. Also a gift for fans of Hawaiian WW2 history. Reads like a novel, almost makes you expect to run into Thomas Magnum’s father or Steve McGarrett’s grandfather during the story. I consider myself to be a well-read student of WW2 history, specifically the war in the Pacific as a former Marine who served in the western Pacific in the last 30 years, but I learned quite a bit of new information. As a former Marine I was also deeply impressed with Mr. Harmon’s and Agent Carroll’s nuanced narrative when discussing how military members viewed and responded to those events. Let’s hope this book is made into a movie so future generations can understand the importance of this moment in our history and how America, sometimes later than sooner, always lives up to our values.

Fascinating story with some lapses
This is a fascinating story, clearly explaining the Hawaiian-American-Japanese culture in the islands leading up to and beyond the attack on Pearl Harbor. After reading it, I could only imagine the difficult times imposed on those very patriotic Americans who were under a cloud of suspicion and prejudice, Also well told was the involvement by Japanese diplomats and their followers, the ones who facilitated the Pearl Harbor attacks. My one complaint was that the book occasionally reads like a Master’s Thesis, and is heavily footnoted. A minor complaint given the story the authors set out to tell.

Great book...must read!
This is a hauntingly good book, and a must read given that we have decimated our sense of history in the U.S. especially as it pertains to historically marginalized groups. It's well written, and compellingly discusses the plight of real people's lives. Don't miss it.

This book was bought as a gift for my Dad; who was very impressed with it. He is a fan of Mark Harmons after being an avid watcher of NCIS (TV Show) for years. He loves reading about historical events and is ex Navy himself. So this was the perfect gift for him. The book also arrived in great condition.
