Best there is for extreme hot weather.
For lots of days, you probably want something with more UPF value than this shirt to block UV from the sun.But when it is really hot out, it's better to give up some UPF rating for extra cooling. No other shirt really compares to the Echo for extreme heat. Make sure to get a lighter color for high temp weather. Darker colors are too hot.The only shirt that comes close if the Mountain Hardwear Crater Lake, which is UPF 50 and heavier. It is also nice for hot weather, but not as hot as the Echo.Size up 2-3 sizes if you are using this shirt for extreme heat, like 90-100+ F. It adds a lot of airflow to the shirt and lets the sleeves come completely over your hands. Baggy fit will help a lot.

lightweight & alittle scratchy
Compared to the popular and expensive Patagonia Capilene, which is comfortable and light, this one is lighter weight (good), scratchier (bad) and tighter around my throat (better protection but less comfy). I have not yet washed it nor hiked in it.

Ultra Comfortable
This sun hoody is super light and really comfortable to wear. The hood covers all but your face. The hood easily slides over a baseball cap or beanie hat. The neck is really high so you get 90% protection from the sun. The sleeves have thumb loops. This can easily be worn as a stand alone piece or as part of a layering system. The only downside of this particular Outdoor Research piece is that I had to order it from Amazon US, please make these available in Europe. To summarise, this hoody is worth every penny.

My favorite sun layer
I've had two OR Echo's now, and love both of them.Pros:Super lightGreat temp control / cooler sideGood UV ProtectionLove the hoodLove the thumbholesAthletic/leaner cutFun colorsGood scent controlPotential Cons:It's a fairly fragile fabric, to be expected of it's lightness. I got about 2.5 years out of my last one. It's cool, so if the temp drops you may need to put on a layer (not a con imo, just something to be aware of)Leaner cut if you're on the larger side

Overall Excellent
Fit: Ordered my normal size. I worried about it being tight or an odd fit, but I shouldn't have been concerned. Its form fitting in the arms, and looser in the torso. The neck is tight without being uncomfortable, and while the hood isn't exactly stylish when up, it excels at its purpose of keeping the sun off when you really need to.It seems to work really nicely on those hot days. I mainly use it while landscaping and it breathes pretty well and keeps me from burning up.

Fits bigger than Previous Years
If you have older versions of this-2020 and older, size down. OR has decided to change their sizing for no apparent reason at all. Otherwise great shirt.
