Great Guitar for the Price
I have had mine for three years. I had been looking for a cheap guitar for a project. I had heard good things about Grote and I wanted a electric spanish style body with P90s. My plan was to upgrade the electric parts and tuners. I was going back and forth on pulling the trigger when I noticed if I got an Amazon CC they'd knock off $100, So I pulled the trigger for $89. I was more than impressed and pleased with the build quality. Neck is very friendly and easy, though I hit the fingerboard and frets with 0000 steel wool and the red finish on the body feels a bit coarse. I replaced the tuners with Grover Roto-matics and that was it. The pickups are very pleasing to my ears. They can be very pretty and also knarly. The pots, switch and jack are fine. The bridge is good enough. Everytime I pick it up I play for hours. Whether a beginner or experienced, this is a good guitar, especially for the money. I also have the jazz version in natural with a single P90. TBH, it might even be nicer. Stays in tune and plays great.

Worked right out of the box. But a case would have been appreciated.
Opened it up, from the usual triangle shaped box and it was well wrapped, and protected. It was also in a plastic bag.Included some pics, a cloth and an amp connector cord.Sapele looks like mahogany, and the guitar looked great. No scratches, scars, dings, dents etc. Body bound.Neck was straight as an arrow, if anything, action was slightly too low at the nut. (now THAT is a first for me to see)It appeared a bit dry and should have some lemon oil on fret board and even some conditioner to body, but it is a beautiful looking guitar.Controls all worked fine, and jack was fine. You have to know they could be better, but honestly I do not do changes on something that looks this good, and is working fine. Compared to other guitars I have this size, it is a bit lighter weight.Tuners, typically, should be tightened when tuning, not loosened, so this is normal. Came back a week later and it was still in tune. Intonation spot on.I would have to raise the action a bit past the 12th fret, but only on low strings. If you do not get that far up, you will be glad it was so low. Slight buzz farther up on Low E and A.Sound from the "P9o's" was good, the amp you use will accommodate them and lots of tones are available. Neck pickup could be raised just a touch, but I have not yet.My BB King Lucille and My ES 335 case fit fine.Construction is solid, but it is not a Gibson, and you CAN feel the edges of the binding, just a tad. It could be smoothed to be seamless, but not by me. Unless you are looking for an issue, to complain about, this minor seam height difference will not bother you.It gets great comments from everyone who sees it, and hears it.It comes in 3 colors and mine was not Green, or Natural, but was a dark Vintage Sunburst and I have no complaints.Grote has hit the mark for me with a P90 guitar. It makes me want to look at other Grotes, as well.Mark K8VF Michigan

Very functional guitar and cheap.
I had seen some reviews of inexpensive semi hollow guitars, on you tube including some Grotes. The reviews were good so I looked at them on Amazon. This particular guitar caught my eye, due to the P-90’s. As I was looking at it, a pop-up appeared on the screen, offering the guitar for $79.00, if I signed up for a prime credit card. Well twist my arm.The top of the guitar appears to be a photo finish. The back and sides look like mahogany or some other open grained wood, that has not been filled. It has a satin finish on the entire guitar. The neck required a little buffing with a piece of 4-0 steel wool.Bridge and tail piece look like pot metal but they are functional. Tuners are cheap and a little uneven. If strung properly the strings don’t slip. The P-90’s are to my liking. They are not high output pickups but they sound very nice. The height of the pickups is correct. A nice extra is that when both pickups are on, they are in humbucking mode. Another thing that I like is that the guitar is really light and it’s very easy on your back. The frets on this guitar are surprisingly good. There was no fret sprout and there was an obvious effort to polish them. The fret board, which looks like rosewood, was dry and benefited with some oil. I set the guitar up with .011’s.There was one high fret which was easily knocked down with a buzz-off.In all, this is a nice guitar. It’s not an ES-335 or Guild Starfire. It would be great for a beginner but, I would not have a problem using it on a gig. The weight of the guitar has me tempted to play out with it.Summarizing, it’s a decent++ guitar at a very appealing price

pretty guitar
Ive had this for about 6 months, and am happy with it. My first electric guitar ( played acoustic for several years) and I think the flat finish looks great! I had to replace the strings right away but I expected that. I think guitar snobs would look down on the made in china thing, but I am perfectly happy with it and you can't beat the price. It arrived in good shape and quicker than the estimate.

Great guitar and great deal!
This is a very, very good guitar! The only thing it does need a set up. I will change the tuners also, they're not that great, and for the price being SO low, even with high quality tuners, better capacitors and potentiometers, IT's AN UNBEATABLE deal! For about $300, that you put into it, you have the equivalent of a $500-700 guitar. The P90 pickups sound good, my favorite pickups of all time.
