The GMAT is changing - for the better!
GMAC has just released new books ahead of the introduction of the new Focus Edition of the GMAT.Highlights:-Shorter: 2 hours, 15 minsThis is down from nearly 3 1/2 hours previously, which created issues of stamina and fatigue. This shorter version guarantees that students will be focused for the duration of the test!-No Sentence CorrectionPreviously, this question type caused frustration for students, but also created opportunity for those who could master the nuances of English grammar. If you have a fear of grammar, you no longer need to worry!-No EssayMany folks will be happy to see this section has been eliminated. It was quite easy to master, but it didn't contribute to the 800-score, so most students found it to be a nuisance.-Say Goodbye to GeometryIt's gone! No more agonizing over shapes, circles and diagrams. This topic has been eliminated.-New section called "Data Insights"The Data Sufficiency questions have been migrated to this section, and they are now combined with what was once called Integrated Reasoning. Data Insights counts towards your 800-score, so now mastery on IR is more important than ever!-Ability to change up to 3 answers per sectionRealized you should have divided your answer by 2 before selecting "B"? Now you can go back and change a few answers in a section. This should help people who disliked the rigidity of the old GMAT format. What hasn't changed?-The GMAT is still a difficult testThe questions will continue to be notoriously difficult and the time pressure will still force you to work quickly. Though the overall test is shorter, it will still demand a high level of concentration.-It's still adaptive by questionIf you answer a question correctly the next one will be more difficult; if you answer incorrectly, the next question will be easier. This results in a very accurate test score for students, but can make the test-taking experience quite unsettling.-Business schools will rely on the GMAT Focus Edition even more when making admissions decisions...The GMAT will continue to be one of the most relevant and decisive components of your business school application....so, getting a high score on the GMAT Focus Edition will be as important as ever!Practice, practice, practice is the way for you to achieve a high score and stand out from the crowd. You can do this by training with official GMAC materials and by working with an experienced and results-oriented tutor.Good luck.
