I really like this set of place mats. The design is wonderful and the colors are very, very nice. It looks better live than in the pictures. I'm so happy I bought them. The back is plain black. They are a little thicker than normal fabric place mats, perfect! Really good quality. Also, it said it is washable. Machine wash cold. Gentle cycle. Lay flat or line dry. 70% cotton, 30% polyester. Hope this info helps.
