Works good for what I need
While the fountain works great and as its intended, I don't like the idea of having the filter and the pump sponge filter to replace. Considering there is no replacement sponge filter, I can see where the pump could fail after a short period of time. However, in my quest to make it work efficiently, I found these filters that I can cut to size: Pawfly 2 Pack Aquarium Bio Sponge Filter Media Pad, 40 PPI Filter Foam Sponge Pads Cut-to-Size Foam for Fish Tank Filters Sumps Ponds Hydroponics, 9" x 9" x 0.5".

Don't have to refill the fountain as much/REVISED
We don't have to bend over twice a day to refill it like the smaller fountain. I have three dogs, and my Westipoo who barks at anything new went crazy until she got thirsty and gave in. While the noise bubbling sounds are louder than the smaller fountain, I like that; because we know the fountain needs water. Cleaning the fountain is easy, because the spout is wider than the little fountain, and checking the filter to see if it's time to change it as easy as looking at it. Great option for tap water users! You may think your water 💦 is safe; it's not. We proved this with the Zero Water Testing Meter. We only use tap-water 💧 to bathe in. You do need a power outlet for the pump to work, but you do not need to hook the fountain to your tap. I personally like this because it forces lazy people like me to disassemble the fountain every few days to clean it, and check the filter pad.Since I reviewed this item a smarter individual than me pointed out that the base is plastic, and is not recommended for pets. Even some metal cat & dog bowls have "pet safe" stamped on the bottom. I have stopped using this product. Please consider making this item 'pet safe.' Thanks to the person who corrected me--I don't remember your name.

dogs and cat love it
Great product. The dogs love it, the cat loves it. Just make sure to take it a part and wash it every week or so, depending on how many animals you have it can get pretty gross. Great water capacity, easy to put together and take apart, it's been going strong for a pretty long time now.

UPDATE: Added Filter Sponge ...Big enough for 2 large dogs and 5 cats
I like that holds 2 gallons of water and I was very excited about the description of the filters. My last fountain had charcoal filters and charcoal would be all over them. When I would wash the other fountain there'd be charcoal lining the bowl. My animals would eventually stop drinking from it and use other sources I had. I knew it was time to upgrade. This 2 gal fountain is definitely easy to clean, very few parts. If you have those straw cleaners you don't even need to disassemble the tray, from the tube and pump. Which is a good thing since I have found that it doesn't filter out any debris. I really don't know the purpose of the filter other than possibly removing bad tasting particulates. Similar to a Brita filter. That's great in all, but this thing sits on a floor not in a refreigerator. It has animals drinking out of it who shake around it and loose hair flies off. In general, in people's homes with pets, especially multiple pets, hair just flies through the air. My point being I end up having to change the water in this fountain every 2 days or so because of all the debris in it. Luckily the water level has been mostly low when it needs cleaning, otherwise I'd be dumping (wasting) the distilled water I'm purchasing. An add on foam filter is really needed possibly where the water falls down into the lower tank, sitting right above the filter. I am thinking of adding one like the one that's in the pump, but much larger to catch the debris. Big enough to fit under the draining slots of the tray. I'll update if the debris situation improves and exactly what modifications I did.Update... I added an aquarium filter charcoal sponge in the tray that holds the plastic white filter. It catches 95% of the debris and reduces nearly all of the slime. I am going to stop using the plastic white filter, I'm using my last one now. I can see no benefit in using them. They don't last more than 4-5 days for me, sometimes less and they cost too much for that kind of turnover. I've actually watched the water run through the fountain as I pour water in and it spills over in every direction not particularly over the plastic filter. So how does it benefit the water? The water needs to be forced through that filter so it can be filtered, duh. I've had lots of products with filters in them bottles, faucets, fountain etc and not one of them had a filter across from the pump or water source. I think the dogs and cats could have designed a better fountain. I'm thinking a 2yr old designed this one. Seriously charging us stupid consumers $20-25 for 4 useless filters that don't even last 4 days. I hope some people get to read this before buying. If your handy and can modify things this is a huge fountain for a lot of animals. It has benefited me. On the other hand it has wasted more of my money on plastic white filters, being frustrated that they don't last.
