impressive so far
Brilliant kettle - I don't really understand why all kettle aren't like this - it definitely saves energy in its use.AS and when this should need replacing I will definitely buy another. The kettle retains heat very well - If I fill the kettle first thing heat to 70 degrees, and return every hour or so for a fresh cup each time the kettle will loose 10 to 20 degrees of heat - but is very quick to reheat to 70.The temperature heat options (40 -100) once reached then show a red dot to indicate what temp the water remains at - so you get an impression of how much heat has been lost since your last visit to the kettle.Looks the business, read out on the base is super clear, controls are easy, and intuitive. The lid is sealed so when heating to a full boil you get no steam out of the spout - a bonus safety feature! The sides are definitely cool to the touch even when full of boiling waterNegatives if you could call them that :-It does pour slowly, but then its essentially a vacuum flask that is also a kettle so the spout is small to keep in the heat. Upsie is you don't also easily splash very hot water around easily. If you do need to pour quickly, simply remove the lid.No window indicator - there is a max line internally pressed into the metal which is obvious - however as the water is kept warm there is no real concern if the kettle is overfilled for the number of cups of tea needed as it kept warm thus I'd say this negative is a mute point frankly.

Excellent Eco Option
First one of these arrived damaged but was replaced quickly by Amazon. Our primary reason for buying this was environmental. It's lower wattage than most kettles and keeps water hot so there is less need to reboil.Quick to boil despite being rated at only 1800w (low for a kettle - our old one was rated at 3000w). The selectable temperature is extremely useful and must help save energy in a house like ours where green tea, which is best brewed with 80 degree water, is king.Kettle can also be knocked over full of water without leaking any, a very useful safety feature if you have little ones running around.Kettle is also very quiet when compared to a standard kettle which is a welcome relief and it doesn't let mountains of steam escape when boiling like a normal kettle does and therefore, perhaps unintentionally, reduces damp. All in all, if you are looking for a kettle which helps protect the environment a little this is a really good choice, only giving 4 stars though as there are some questions about durability and build quality!

Great if you have ADHD
I love the fact that it helps me with my poor task management. So many times I'll boil the kettle and forget to make tea. So having the water hot when I remember to make the tea saves me reboiling.Downsides are that it takes a long long time to boil when you refill the kettle. So not great if you regularly make lots of cups of tea in one go. But you can set it to boil straight after refilling and when you come back later its still hot.You have to tip the kettle quite far to get anything to come out the spout and as it is heave that is hard to do one handed, but because the outside is cool enough to touch you can use both hands. So actually quite good for the infirm who might otherwise struggle. There is no water level indicator and it is hard to see the max level line inside the kettle. So you might boil the kettle and then realise there isn't enough water for a cuppa or two.It seems an odd omission not to include weighing scales in the base to give a precise indication of the water level measured in cups or mugs. It could also tell you if you have overfilled.Overall I'm very happy with it. I'll give it 5 stars because it does what it is designed for.

Eco Friendly? Other makes should pay attention.
What does eco friendly mean? If it means a 'keep warm' button that constantly uses power to maintain your preferred temperature, just in case you should have another cup, then your power hungry appliance is going to be working a little harder, and contributing to your power consumption as reflected in your energy bills. If instead, like this kettle, it focuses primarily on maintaining the heat you have already paid for by keeping the water warm with significant thermal insulation, well, your hot water won't get you into such hot water when the bills arrive.3 October 2024: Update:After seventeen months, our Vektra kettle had become quite unreliable. We could blame this on the builders and their boundless love for tea, but it seems the Vektra kettle wasn’t nearly so keen on this affair, and in any case they were only with us for a few short weeks; though admittedly, this was almost as long as the kettle in question.During it’s sojourn with us, said kettle excelled at both spillage, (every time), and getting the temperature off by, on average, seven degrees celsius. In it’s defence, however, I should say that it did have a very comfortable handle. As this was the second fairly expensive kettle in a row to croak on us prematurely, we have seen fit to replace it with a less costly one this time, though still a temperature control model, because my aeropress demands no less. Will the new brew fare any better? Well, it couldn’t do much worse.Vektra’s star rating dropped to two, because it was so short lived, and even when working tended to be eratic, never equaling the redikettle which in turn it replaced.
