The Best DIY Kits on the Market for the Price!
I write very few reviews. But when I see an amazing price/product value, I feel compelled to do it. I have built over 50 DIY guitar kits from various companies. I can say, without reservation, that the Leo Jaymz DIY Kits rise above all of them from a price/quality perspective. THE BODY alone is worth the price - solid mahogany, cleanly and accurately routed down to the millimeter. The specs are dead on. And unlike 90% of other kits, you can trust the positioning of the pre-drilled pilot holes. THE NECK is surprisingly good. Albeit raw, it is well milled, accurate, and just waiting to be finessed. As with any kit neck, you will need to level and dress the fret wires and apply your desired finish. THE HARDWARE & ELECTRONICS are complete, functional, and well packaged. Everything you need is included and will work fine. That said, and if your build is going well, you may opt for better components like pickups and tuners. But don't get me wrong. This kit is worth every penny and, to me, the best on the market for the dollar. I added a couple of pics of my last Leo Jaymz build I did for a charity - it auctioned off for $1,200. UPSHOT: From entry-level to accomplished luthiers, this kit offers the potential to create a highly functional, quality instrument at an absolutely amazing price point.

Beautiful guitar body and neck, But why do these companies insist on sealing?
Okay, I have one serious gripe with this kit, they spray a thin coat of sealer on their body for some absolutely stupid reason. The biggest reason why people buy kits is to customize and build their own guitars. Which includes picking the color that they want. Some people, people that largely know what they're doing, use stains and Dyes to tint their natural finish guitars.... So, tell me why, as a company, knowing this, would you do the one thing that would prevent people from doing this? It's beyond idiotic and absolutely unnecessary. Now I have to spend a couple of hours sanding this thing so I can do what I need to in order to finish this thing. I'm beyond annoyed at this because the amount of clear used, wasn't even enough to actually protect the wood from anything if left alone, so, why bother? I'm done with my rant now, time to move on. I've been buying Leo Jaymz's necks for a while now, they're absolute steals for the price you pay. I've bought 4 or so of them now, not including the one that came with this kit, and I'll be honest with you, they've all been flawless. The hardware is sufficient, looks well-ish made for knockoff OEM hardware, but I always pitch it in a box and add hardware of my own choosing. Again, that's the point of a kit guitar. Overall I am happy with this kit, I'd just really rather they didn't seal the wood so that people can actually customize the colors of their guitars properly, as a kit was intended for, without having to spend hours sanding and shaping, just to potentially end up with a splotchy finish... Overall, knowing this, sure, I'd probably buy another of these kits, the wood is beautiful, the construction is solid, and for what you pay, you're making off like a bandit. I'm knocking a star off for the unnecessary and useless clear that they put on the body. otherwise it would be a 5/5.

Don't be scared....DO IT! These kits are awesome!
The body....good quality wood, machined accurately. Everything fit just right. Pickups that came with it are not splittable, but will play just fine, and be easy to hook up. This kit has easy wiring, but not versatile wiring. dime-sized potentiometers, which work fine. Tuning machines, I did not use...upgraded to locking tuners. The neck, C-shaped profile. Good, though simple. Nut, plastic but adequate. It was machined beautifully and fit the cut out in the body perfectly. very good! I used brass threaded inserts and not the included wood screws. The fret board was flat and useable right out of the box... Very good! The frets were even, though I did have to work them a little. Very good....but you will have to do a little work. I say very good frets, right out of the box...just need a little extra work. Ovverall, I am completely satisfied by this kit. I knew I would need to finesse it into what I wanted it to be, but it required only a little bit of work. For the money, OUTSTANDING! The instruction book is EXCELLENT! Best in the industry! There is even a link to online free guitar instruction for a couple months.! All in all... this is a fantastic package! I will be getting another soon...perhaps a bass!

No customer response
The kit was delivered and packaged well. The problems began on assembly. The tremelo pegs had been drilled too large which should have to be driven in with a mallet. This causes the tremelo to rise unexpectedly and you can't set the action. The neck appears to be twisted or not sanded properly before frets were installed as there is an unfixable fret buzz on the lower E string at the 3rd fret. I spent 3 days trying to set the neck. The frets are ok but definitely not jumbo frets. The pickups are cheap and the mounting instructions are poor, especially on where the lower springs are to be placed on installation. I would recommend a pickup mounting plate instead of what was provided. The neck string retainer screw for the 3rd and 4th string is way to short and small to keep the string retainer in place and it popped right out on tension. I have a beautiful, non playable guitar after spending 6 days applying finishes to the guitar. Having built guitars before and being a guitar player for 30+ years, I am simply not happy with this product. The wood is beautiful, but if your neck is not right, the guitar will never play. I could spend hundreds of dollars to attempt to have a guitar shop remove the frets and sand the neck, but that may not even correct the issue. Also note that I am unable to set the intonation which I have done successfully on other guitars for years. Suspect the poor neck again as the leading contributer to this issue. This is definitely not a guitar build for a beginner to attempt, not with all these issues. Sorry for the poor review but hopefully the company can make this right some how. For now it's just pretty to look at but unable to play.

Good Kit Poor QC.
The kit is pretty solid overall. The wood is really good quality, the neck is straight with very few sharp edges. Not really sure itโs a roasted maple neck but it is really nice. Hardware is what you would expect. All of it is getting replaced anyway. The main issue is that the bridge stud holes are not even close to being in the correct position. I could tell without even measuring them. They were too far apart and off centered. Honestly if youโre going to sell something like this you need proper QC. I am keeping it and just plugging the holes and redrilling them in the correct position. Not everyone can fix an issue like this, especially a first timer. I bought a Harley Benton kit also for less money and there were no issues at all with it. I will update after I get it finished. Update. After plugging and redrilling the bridge mount holes this what I ended up with finished product.

Great kit
I bought this as a first guitar project, found a really good video series by StewMac. I used all Stewmac spray lacquer and followed their videos. It took forever, very slow going and life work gets in the way but was worth it. Take your time with the paint, donโt expect a weekend project. Quality of the kit showed, things just fit and no issues at all with the wood. The wood grain on the neck looks fantastic so I wanted to show it off and used just TrueOil and a coat of wax. It darkened and looks fantastic. It is a great simple kit that you can keep straight forward and simple or expand on it to make it something a lot more if you want to.

Too many problems; had to return
I really wanted to build a dual Humbucker tele and given the price and the fact that Youtubers were always touting this brand, I pulled the trigger. Unfortunately, there was one major issue that forced a return, and a second that made me uncomfortable: 1) It looks like someone cut the nut slot by hand. It was very sloppy, too big and the nut was sitting vertically at an angle. See pics. No way I could repair this. It should have never left the factory; in the long run it will cost the company far more $ than had they just tossed the neck in the trash. 2) There was a small split in the neck pocket in the body and they sloppily filled it with wood filler. This is the highest stress area of a guitar and filler adds no strength. Might have never been a problem, but... 3) For some reason they finished the body with some type of sealer or clear coat. That's fine if you want to paint it, but if you want to stain it --- like many would --- you are in for a lot of sanding and even then you'll never get it out of the deep pores of the Mahogany. To be fair, I knew this before I bought it because I saw a comment from a previous buyer. I understand that this is a low cost for the kit, but I would not have bought it for any price with a bad neck (well, maybe if I just wanted a body, but buying a replacement neck separately makes it far more expensive.) I've seen other reviewers of the kits not have these problems, so likely just a one-off problem because the guy at the factory didn't want to get in trouble with the boss for rejecting the neck and eating into the boss' margins.

Good starting point
I bought this kit for the Mahogony body and maple neck alone, and I was a little worried about the neck. When it arrived, the neck was the first thing I looked at, and it isn't bad at all. Its straight as an arrow, the truss rod end is exactly where it should be, and the frets are done well (although they were obviously glued); the edges are beveled, but could do with a touch-up, but the radius looks good, and they appear to be level. I'd say good job on the neck. On to the body: all the routings are clean except for the input jack spot. It didn't go all the way through. It's an easy fix, though. There were a couple of places that got sanded flat where they were supposed to be rounded, but I can fix that as well. And the neck fit the body like a glove, snug as could be (refraining from using a vulgarity). Of course, all the hardware is junk, but I intended on replacing it anyway. However, if you don't intend on replacing it, it is still perfectly serviceable and works.

Great kit
This is my sixth leo jaymz kit. They are great kits if you know what you are doing (even better if you don't, you will learn). Body, neck and hardware are all good and useable. Once setup, this guitar plays beautifully. No problem getting low action - 1.7mm to 1.5 mm. The nut was cut well and the trem, once balanced, is smooth and stable. Anyone who complains about these kits is "nit picking" at this price and you always have the option to return it if there is a quality issue.

Decent Jimmy, decent!
It's not perfect, but it's decent. Shipping was fast. Ordered on Tuesday and arrived the next day. Haven't assembled it yet as I test fit the neck and it's a little to snug, so waiting on sanding kit to sand the neck and neck pocket. I will also be using all new hardware as included hardware is mediocre. When all said and done, would I purchase this kit again? I sure would and probably will. Gave it four stars because neck fitment and cheap hardware.

Nice body and neck no finishing required for frets
Tuners are cheap, very fast, hard to fine tune. Wiring is great no soldering needed. Beutiful Mahogany body. I tried to bring out the grain more, but this was my first attempt. Bridge is basic but works, both pickups are 10.2 k Ohm ( I assume Ceramic). I had to do nothing to the neck except spray with polyurethane. It worked perfectly out of the box.

Dual humbucker w/o pick guard.
Kit is fine, wood body is super porous, needs to be filled. Neck is nice, fret inlays are not pearlescent as per description they are black. Bridge is unusable, pre drilled holes for the bridge posts are too big and the slide outโฆ. Neck holes on body need to be drilled out to 5mm to fit screws provided. Tuners are barely usable. Wiring is simple with the plugs but makes it a bit more difficult to swap things out. One of the pots is really gritty when spinning one of them is bent. Neck pocket fits well knobs are actually pretty solid, the switch is a bit wobbly side to side.
