Q: Will this work for removing pastel pencil dust without smuding them?

I only use it to brush eraser leavings away. I haven’t tried it with pastel. I suggest you get a spare piece of pastel paper, roughly scrub some pastel over the paper, even try blending it. Then when you have created some pastel dust, use the brush across the pastel and just see if it smudges the pastel. If it does obviously don’t use it on your art work. That’s the only thing I can suggest for you.

No you need the sweep of the brush the others are too small

Q: What are the bristles made of?

"It is horse hair" as stated in the product description. All drafting brushes were traditionally horse hair as it has just the right amount of softness.
