System works well and is easy to understand. The instructions are straightforward and well laid out. Would recommend two people for installing just for ease but can be accomplished on your own. Would with a wider boat or objet you will rub the side when lower or raise but the rope is soft so not a concern on my application.

I ordered two StoreYourBoard Kayak and Canoe Ceiling Pulley System, Garage Mount Storage Hoists in late 2024 for two 10' fishing kayaks.I really like the solid, heavy-duty construction of the pulley system. Installation requires some effort, but that's normal and with ladder, proper tools, and locating the joists, I installed them both with my son in less than a couple hours.The reason I do not give this product/system 5-stars is the rope, which I would describe as a lighter weight, canvas covered variety, similar to a boot lace. Friction between this rope and the metal pulley bracket frayed the rope to the point that the second time I raised the kayak, the rope snapped (see picture of the black rope).I contacted StoreYourBoard in the evening, not expecting a reply until after the weekend, but they responded to me within just a couple hours. In response, they sent two replacement ropes for the systems, but the ropes appear to be identical to what came with the system. In my opinion, the rope is just not trustworthy.From REI, I purchased 60’ of high-quality 5mm rope ($0.50/foot), and I reinstalled the system with this new rope (see picture of red rope). I tested this with one of the systems, and it seems to be working great, so I will purchase a matching rope length from REI to reinstall on the other system. (I’ve got 10’ ceilings and 60’ is more than enough length for me.)Bottom lines are (1) StoreYourBoard is a good and responsive company, and worth purchasing from; (2) the systems’ pulleys and brackets are sturdy and good; (3) I strongly recommend that purchasers upgrade the rope before hoisting your boat. (You don’t want the rope to snap when your boat is raised—mine snapped when it was low and there was no evident damage to the boat.) Even with the out-of-pocket cost for buying the higher quality rope, I still think the system is a reasonable value, and purchasers who upgrade the rope will find the system to be trustworthy and operate exactly as desired.

Will be purchasing a second one! Easy to install. Great price.

DO NOT USE TO HOIST AND STORE KAYAKS!!! This should not be sold to people expecting to hang a kayak safely. After installation I found that the rope locking mechanism was both inadequate and unreliable and would release suddenly. Before anyone chimes in with "Installed incorrectly" or "Probably user error" I can tell you that I'm mechanically inclined and triple checked my installation and the came to the conclusion that the rope lock would only be good for 1 or 2 foam surfboard(s) or 1 light SUP. Anything heavier and it will pose as a safety hazard.

It is very simple but it works great. The break is handy if you need a break while hauling it up with weight

I just installed the kayak pulley system to lift and store my kayak. The system came on time as promised. The directions were included and were a bit unclear at first but I just had to trust the instructions and follow the steps as noted and it went up fine.It says it will hold 150 lbs. and I am using it to store a 50 lb. kayak. As I pulled the kayak up the first time I thought it would pull up easier than it did. The rope and pulleys seemed a bit undersized but it worked fine as I got used to it.When the kayak gets to the top there is a built in brake system that holds it up. When you get ready to take the kayak down you pull on the excess rope and it releases the kayak so you better be ready to have a good hold on the rope as the weight of the kayak comes down. What concerns me is the effectiveness of the brake system. The brake system is released by lifting the excess rope. If the rope get bumped or hit while in storage it could fall down. To take care of that issue, after the kayak is up in place I also put to extra safety strap through a hole in the kayak to a eye screw that I screwed into the ceiling. I put in 2 of these. That way if the brake fails the 2 extra safety straps should keep the kayak from falling.Another issue is the extra rope that is left when the kayak is in place. They included a cleat to wrap the excess rope with but it seems to be in the way in the garage.Overall it is a good system for the price.

I bought a kayak on a whim and wasn’t sure what I was going to do with it when I got back from vacation. I ordered this while on vacation so I could put it up as soon as I got home. (That didn’t actually happen, it was about 3 weeks until I got around to it.)The video makes it extremely easy to install and lifting the kayak up is fairly easy. It’s been 7 months and has not fallen on my wife’s car.
